Unconscious Maiden

I caught her before she fell. She was burning up. I had never seen anything like this. She pushed me and I fell. She couldn't be human. Obviously not a vampire or a werewolf. Maybe she is a witch but then why did my action have so much effect on her. I didn't really want to scare her, I just wanted to use compulsion, so that I and my brother won't be exposed. William was right, it could also be dangerous for her. What am I thinking? Why do I care about her? Why can't I just leave her to let her die?

I looked at the girl limp in my arms, she looked so vulnerable. What should I do, she was burning up. I am not a human but I was once and I do no fainting and having such high temperature isn't normal. I bit my hand and fed her my blood because vampire blood could heal most of the human illnesses. 

It didn't help. I touched her forehead she was still to too warm. She started shivering and whimpering as if she was in pain. What the hell, why is my blood not working. It means that there is something supernatural in play. What should I do? Should I take her to a hospital? no that won't do, the human doctors won't be able to help, supernatural stuff is above their paygrade. I thought frantically.

So I took the last option I had and took her to our Herondale mansion, where Willaim would be. 

I super speeded to our mansion and as soon as I entered, I shouted "William". 

"Why are you shouting Jace?" he asked irritated but when he saw Scarlett, he was in front of me in seconds. That's as fast as vegetarian vampires can move. I thought mentally huffing.

"What the hell happened??" He asked taking Scarlett from my arms. 

He didn't give me time to reply, "She is so hot". Well yes, she is very hot and sexy...Uhh!! this isn't the time to joke.

"I don't know what happened, I was trying to compel her but then she pushed me away and then she fainted," I stated.

William took her to the bedroom and laid her on the bed. William hastily started to feed her some of his blood.

"Brother do you think I am so dumb, I tried feeding her my blood, but it didn't work," I said irritated and worried for the mortal girl.

"Jace she is shivering and has a high fever, you bring her some blankets and I will bring some cold cloth". I nodded and got some blankets. 

I sat down on the bed and William started putting a wet cloth on her forehead.

"Her fever is not coming down. Jace, what did you do? Tell me the whole story." William said getting angry.

"What the hell I didn't do anything. I just tried to compel her to forget about vampires, but then she got terrified and pushed me. The first time it had no effect on me. The second time when I was almost going to compel her, she pushed me and I fell." 

"But how can her human strength affect you?" he asked confused.

"I don't know," I said sighing.

"Maybe it is a spell, but who put it on her?" he said mumbling to himself. Yes, that seemed like a rational guess. But which witch would have to anything with Scarlett. Scarlett didn't even know supernatural creatures existed before today. f*****g hell I have no idea.

" How the hell do you not know anything Jace, you were there when all this happened, hell you may be the reason, she is in this condition."

"I don't know how many times do I have to tell you and I didn't do anything to her, except trying to compel her which I have done on millions of other humans." he shook his head and then started to speak something, but I got up and I cut him off, " I know, I know Vampire Blood also didn't work and again I don't know why for god's sake William," I said extremely agitated and went out of the room. I couldn't take another minute of seeing Scarlett suffering. I don't know why? Maybe it's because she looks just like my past love Tessa with her piercing blue eyes closed. No, Scarlett's blue eyes are her best feature which Tessa, as well as Scarlett's twin Rose, does not have. They are mesmerising. What am I thinking? This is the second time in 3 hours, I have asked this question to myself. Maybe all the mess in Kenwood hills is going to my head. I desperately need a drink.  I didn't wait a minute in the house I needed to go to a bar and get drunk.

William

It had been hours and Scarlet was still not conscience. I felt like a total failure. I didn't know how to help her. I am so worried. Maybe we should have taken her to a hospital, but if Vampire blood didn't work how would the mundane medicines work. 'Jace should have never tried to compel Scarlett, maybe triggered something' thought worriedly massaging my forehead. 

Scarlett was shaking, her expression looked haunted. It felt like she was having nightmares. She suddenly started shouting and trashing, so much that I had to hold her down. "No, no dad, mom." Then she started choking as if she was drowning. " Scarlett please calm down" I shouted to her desperately even though I knew she couldn't hear but the next thing I know she went quite like she was just fast asleep. 

I slumped down on the bed exhausted. I touched her forehead to check if her temperature. She was still very warm but the temperature had gone down a little. I looked in her direction, there were dark circles below her eyes as if she hadn't slept for days and her cheeks were flushed, probably form the fever, if she hadn't been in this condition, she would have looked like she was blushing. 

I was relieved to see Scarlett not shouting, thrashing or choking. I closed my eyes and before I knew I was fast asleep.
