My Blessings

Vynessa's POV The class went mute the moment I walked in and everyone began to stare at me, with each of them whispering to another. I have no idea what was going on but one thing I knew for a fact was that it was not for something good. The silence that followed Axel was usually that of admiration and being stunned but mine was actually that of mockery. What had happened this time? I held on to my bag tightly and my palms suddenly became sweaty. I had no idea of what to do as my leg froze on the spot. Going outside will only solidify whatever it was that they are talking about and it would make me look backward. Again, I would have to face them someday still because I cannot run away from the class forever. Going in would also make me very uncomfortable. They would continue to stare at me and get me very uncomfortable. My friends were not in the class to at least give me an hang of what was going on. Where could they have been? Had they all heard about my mother getting married? Is that the reason for the stares? “Ha! “ Saskia started with a smile. “Weirdo is here. Wouldn’t it be great to welcome the low budget mystery woman who walks on feet home daily, steal people's things and eat rotten food?” She started and everyone burst into laughter. I froze on the spot. That was definitely not what I expected to hear. “She behaves like she is better than us all yet she is on scholarship because her parents cannot afford anything! Now I know who stole my Jordan last month. It is safe to say that everything that gets lost in here has only been stolen by you!” She yelled and everyone began to laugh. “I…..” My voice broke immediately. “I did not steal anything from anyone.” “Then who stole it because it is pretty obvious that you are the only one who cannot afford everything.” Another spoke and they all began to laugh again. It wasn’t supposed to get to me. Of course, I was strong and barely reacted when someone made fun of my status but perhaps, because of the pain that still hung in my heart from last night, I could not help the tears but instead ran out of the classroom. From nowhere, Axel appeared and stood right in front of me with a smirk on his lips. “You are nothing yet you act like you aren’t attracted to me? Every girl in this school cower at my feet. They giggle when they see me yet you act like you see nothing?” He started. “To hell with you.” I tried to walk away from him but he held my arms immediately. “Feeble and frail.” He scanned me from head to toe and scoffed. “you should beg to be seen by me, you should beg to be wanted by me, you should treat me like a king each time you see me just like every other girls. You should try to touch me and lick my feet just like every other girl. You are nothing so do not act like you are special because you are just a poor rat, enjoying the benefit that you do not deserve. “ I tried to yank my hands off his. I knew he enjoyed the attention he got from the girls who treated him like he was king. Aside his fine face and obviously his father’s money, it was pretty obvious he had nothing to offer. “Let me go!” I yelled at him. “Or what? What will you do? Cry to your wretched mother that….” Everyone suddenly gasped and it was thst moment I realized they had gathered to look at us. The moment I had thrown a slap to their minigod, Axel. “Don’t you dare! In your miserable life, don’t you dare talk to my mother like that.” I yanked my hands off his and walked away while he and other people stared at me in shock. “How dare you hit my man?!” Saskia yelled and charged at me. “A finger on me and I promise you that all that would be left of you is broken bones.” I threatened snd she halted while staring at me wide eyed. “Yes! I am poor. I am not of the same standards with you all. I do not have rich parents that does not make me less of a person. I have a good heart and that is all that matters. I do not steal from anyone. I am satisfied with whatever my mother has to offer me. I am a good person with a good heart!” I yelled at the whole class. Other students had come out to begin to look at us too. The whole hall suddenly went quiet with Axel still holding his cheeks and staring at me in disbelief. He probably did not expect what had just happened. I wasn’t like other girls. He was physically attractive and I could not deny it but he had a rotten heart and I never wanted to have anything to do with someone like him. “You should use your good heart to buy things for yourself then because your shoes are obviously inherited from your great grandparents or maybe stolen..” Someone started and everyone began to laugh, including Axel who seemed to have the hardest laughter. Of course, he enjoyed watching me being humiliated. I could not take the disgrace anymore and headed home immediately. I was filled with shame and embarrassment and even though they tried to stop me from leaving, I found a way to escape. “Vynessa, what are you doing at home at this….” “How rich is the man who wants your hand in marriage?” I questioned and her brows arched, probably surprised. I was equally surprised. “Vynessa….” “I want a response. Is he as wealthy as the parents in Clawsridge?” I questioned again. “Yes, he…” “Good. I give my blessings. Let him know we are ready to move in.”
