Dr. Jason
The poison given to Cara was a very deadly one and I don't really know if she will survive it. The person that did this must have a death wish to dare the almighty Greg.
Greg might be passionate, caring& attentive, but he is ruthless when provoked. His expression after telling him that she was poisoned has remained with me for 4 days now. He was really deeply hurt and there was no denial of the fact that he loved her. Cara is a fighter indeed, taking in all the pains and fighting for her life was a beautiful thing to behold. I picked up my car keys and headed straight for the door. I need to see the big dog and his woman. After checking to make sure that everything was in place, I drove off to Greg's estate.
I can't stop wondering and worrying about how he is doing. His estate was as calm as a graveyard and none of the guards dared to breathe out for fear of unleashing the rot of their boss. As I stepped into his parlour, I found him looking at something I bet didn't even exist.
"Greg" , I called softly before the trance left him." Are you okay", I asked again, now worried.
Greg, standing up to properly greet his visitor, " I am fine Doc, good morning" he smiled. _" You are here so early" he started walking towards his bedroom with the Doctor tagging behind.
"Duty calls" Dr. Jason replied.
When I walked into the room, Greg walked straight to the edge of the bed, probably to observe what I was doing very well.
Dr. Jason, feeling sad about the news he was about to break ." Greg, you need to let her go. She has suffered enough".
Greg, now rubbing his head with his palms, " you know that's not possible. I can't. I am completely useless without her and she is in this mess because of me", he started crying all over again.
Dr. Jason, looking alarmed " Greg, she has stopped breathing. s**t, this can't be happening, not now", I watched as he sat on the floor crying uncontrollably before standing up and straight to the bed. He lifted her into his arms and cradled her.
Please don't go baby, I can't live in this world without you in it.
I am sorry for causing you pain. Please don't leave me.
He looked at Dr. With pains in his eyes, " Please wake her up Doc, I can't loose her. I have waited all my life to be with her, definitely not like this. Please wake her up Doc, I beg you with the name of God". He kept on shaking her, hoping he would wake her up, but didn't make any movement.
Dr. Jason stood to leave. " I am sorry Greg, you tried your best, but I have to go with her body for autopsy". I went out and called some of the guards and, with their help, Cara's lifeless body was placed inside my car before I drove off. I am sorry buddy, but I need to do this.
GREG'S POV
I stood rooted to the spot as the guards carefully carried Cara's lifeless body out of my bedroom.
My wife...
My Cara...
Gone.
I wanted to stop them. I wanted to pull her back into my arms and tell them she wasn't leaving this room. But my body refused to move. It felt as though every bone in my body had been shattered, leaving me trapped in a nightmare I couldn't wake from.
The bedroom door closed behind them.
Silence.
A silence so loud that it echoed through my soul.
I stared blankly at the empty bed where she had lain just moments ago. Her scent still lingered in the room, tormenting me with memories that had become impossible to bear.
"No..." I whispered.
My knees suddenly gave way, and I crashed onto the cold marble floor.
My chest burned as though someone had set my heart on fire.
Someone...
Please wake me up from this nightmare.
This can't be real.
Not Cara.
Not the woman I had waited years to call mine.
I buried my face in my hands and cried without restraint. For the first time in my life, I didn't care who heard me. Let them hear the mighty Greg Vicson cry. Let the whole world know that the man they feared had finally found something capable of destroying him.
Days passed in a blur.
I barely ate.
I barely slept.
The mansion, once full of life, had become unbearably quiet. Even the servants walked on tiptoe, afraid to disturb me.
On the fifth morning, I forced myself out of bed.
I walked into the bathroom, turned on the shower, and stood beneath the freezing water without feeling its temperature. I scrubbed my body mechanically before dressing in an expensive black suit.
Black.
The only colour that suited my mood.
After fastening my wristwatch, I walked downstairs.
Maryan had already arranged breakfast on the dining table, but the food looked tasteless.
I forced myself to eat a few bites.
Not because I was hungry.
Because I needed strength.
Someone had taken Cara away from me.
And I was going to find that person.
No matter how long it took.
No matter the cost.
After breakfast, I walked outside.
The guards immediately opened the car door.
None of them dared to speak.
They knew better.
The drive to my company was unusually quiet.
As we approached the building, employees hurried out of my way.
One look at my face was enough to send fear through everyone.
Good.
If Cara had suffered before taking her last breath, then nobody around me deserved peace either.
I walked straight into the company without acknowledging anyone.
Normally, I would have barked at employees standing around gossiping.
Today...
I didn't have the energy.
I went directly into my office and locked the door behind me.
Without wasting another second, I picked up my phone and dialed a number that very few people knew existed.
It rang twice.
"Boss."
His calm voice came through the receiver.
"I have a job for you," I said.
"I'm listening."
I loosened my tie and threw my suit jacket onto the chair.
"I'll send every detail to your encrypted email."
"I want you to investigate everyone connected to Cara."
"No one is above suspicion."
"I don't care how powerful they are."
"I want names."
"I want evidence."
"And I want the truth."
There was a brief silence.
Then he replied,
"Understood, Boss."
"I'll begin immediately."
The call ended.
I leaned back in my chair and closed my eyes.
Whoever poisoned Cara had declared war on me.
Now...
I would show them what war truly meant.
I pressed the intercom.
"My secretary."
She answered almost immediately.
"Yes, Mr. Vicson?"
"Send in the department heads."
Within minutes, they filed into my office one after another.
Unfortunately for them...
They had chosen the worst possible day to make mistakes.
A report with missing figures flew across the room.
Another manager was ordered out after presenting incomplete documents.
One employee was suspended on the spot.
Another was warned that the next mistake would cost him his career.
No one dared argue.
The entire company felt the weight of my anger.
By the time evening arrived, every employee looked exhausted.
Good.
I wasn't interested in making anyone comfortable.
Not anymore.
I grabbed my car keys and walked out of my office.
The moment I stepped into the company lobby, I froze.
Standing near the entrance, dressed in an expensive designer outfit and wearing a bright smile as though nothing in the world was wrong...
...was Gracie.
The sight of her instantly reignited the fire burning inside me.
With long, purposeful strides, I closed the distance between us.
She smiled even wider.
"Surprise, Greg."
My eyes narrowed dangerously.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
My voice was low.
Cold.
Deadly.
She pouted slightly before smiling again.
"I just came to see you, Big Daddy."
She reached out to touch my face.
I stepped back before her fingers could reach me.
Without another word, I grabbed her wrist—not hard enough to hurt her, but firmly enough to make my point—and led her outside the company building.
The employees inside watched through the glass walls, pretending not to stare.
The moment we were outside, she pulled her hand free.
"I'll forgive your attitude because I love you," she said, trying to sound playful. "But don't ever embarrass me in front of your employees again."
I stared at her in disbelief.
Then I laughed.
A cold, humourless laugh.
"You really have the nerve to say that."
I took one threatening step toward her.
"Listen carefully."
"I don't ever want to see you anywhere near me..."
"...or my company again."
"Stay the hell away from me."
My voice thundered through the parking lot.
For the first time, fear flashed across her face.
Tears gathered in her eyes.
"I'll tell your father!" she shouted. "You have no right to treat me this way."
I moved closer until only a few inches separated us.
Then I leaned toward her ear.
"You disgust me."
Every word came out slow and deliberate.
"I would rather die than marry a woman like you."
"So stop dreaming."
"And stay away from me."
Without waiting for a response, I turned my back and walked toward my car.
Behind me...
Silence.
For the first time since I'd met Gracie, she had nothing to say.
Gracie
I was in the United States when the news reached me.
Greg Vicson...
The man I loved...
Had gotten married.
At first, I laughed.
It had to be another ridiculous rumour created by the media. Greg wasn't the kind of man who would secretly get married without the knowledge of both our families.
But then the pictures started appearing.
The videos followed.
The headlines were everywhere.
"Billionaire Greg Vicson Marries in a Private Ceremony."
I stared at the screen until my vision became blurry.
Then I saw her.
Cara.
A breathtakingly beautiful woman standing beside Greg in a wedding gown.
My fingers tightened around my phone.
"So this is the woman..." I whispered.
A bitter smile spread across my lips.
No wonder everyone kept talking about her.
She was beautiful.
Painfully beautiful.
Even I had to admit that.
The thought alone made my stomach churn.
Without wasting another second, I booked the next available flight home.
I didn't even bother going to my house after landing.
Still dressed from my journey, I went straight to Greg's company.
And what did I get in return?
Humiliation.
Right in front of his employees.
The more I thought about it, the tighter my chest became.
I leaned back against the leather seat of my car and shut my eyes.
My life had never been as glamorous as people imagined.
Yes, I was born into wealth.
Yes, my family was powerful.
But money couldn't erase my mistakes.
I'd been arrested more than once because of my reckless lifestyle.
Every single time, my father used his influence to make the problem disappear.
Without him...
I would probably have spent years behind bars.
Meeting Greg changed something inside me.
For the first time in my life, I wanted to become someone better.
Someone worthy of standing beside him.
And now...
Another woman had taken my place.
No.
I refused to accept that.
A faint smile curved my lips.
"I'll forgive you, Zaddy," I murmured softly.
"Just this once."
My mind drifted back to the day everything began.
I still remembered my father's words.
"You're going to marry the son of my old friend."
At first, I rolled my eyes.
It sounded outdated.
Like one of those old-fashioned business arrangements rich families loved making.
I rejected the idea immediately.
But my father wouldn't stop talking about it.
Eventually, curiosity got the better of me.
I decided to find this mysterious man myself.
The moment I saw Greg...
Everything changed.
He wasn't just handsome.
He was breathtaking.
Tall.
Confident.
Powerful.
A man who carried authority without saying a word.
I fell for him almost instantly.
Since that day, I couldn't picture myself marrying anyone else.
Which was exactly why seeing another woman wearing his wedding ring felt like someone had stabbed me in the heart.
Jealousy coursed through my veins.
Cara...
You may have won today.
But don't celebrate too soon.
I don't lose what belongs to me.
Never.
I slowly opened my eyes and looked out the car window.
"No woman will take what's rightfully mine."
My voice was calm.
Almost gentle.
But beneath it lay an obsession that refused to die.
Greg was mine.
Maybe he didn't know it yet.
Maybe he hated me.
Maybe he couldn't even stand the sight of me.
None of that mattered.
People changed.
He would change too.
One day.
I would make sure of it.
I looked toward my driver.
"Take me home."
"Yes, Miss."
The car pulled away from the company.
As the city lights blurred past the window, a slow smile spread across my face.
"We're far from over, Greg."
"I've only just begun."
A soft laugh escaped my lips.
The game had only started...
And I had no intention of walking away.
Greg
Shortly after my driver pulled away from the company, I took out my phone and dialed a familiar number.
The call connected almost immediately.
"Start coming."
Those were the only words I said before ending the call.
I leaned back against the leather seat and closed my eyes.
My mind refused to rest.
Everything that had happened over the past few days replayed itself like a cruel movie.
My father...
How could he do this to me?
How could a man destroy his own son's happiness without the slightest trace of guilt?
Was power really more important than his own child?
I clenched my fists.
I had only just begun searching for Cara's biological parents. The few clues I had gathered gave me hope that I was getting closer to the truth.
Now...
She was gone.
The thought pierced my heart like a knife.
A lump formed in my throat, and my vision blurred.
"She left me..."
I whispered to myself.
A single tear escaped before I quickly wiped it away.
"No."
"I won't cry anymore."
"Not until I find the person responsible."
"I'll make every single one of them pay."
The rest of the journey passed in complete silence.
---
The moment we arrived at the estate, I ignored everyone and walked straight upstairs to my bedroom.
Without hesitation, I stripped off my clothes and stepped beneath the cold shower.
The icy water poured over my body, washing away the sweat and exhaustion.
For a brief moment...
I felt lighter.
But only for a brief moment.
The ache inside my chest remained.
Some wounds couldn't be washed away.
I dried myself and was buttoning a fresh shirt when movement outside my bedroom window caught my attention.
Voices.
Someone was making a scene at the front gate.
I walked toward the window and looked down.
A faint smile tugged at the corner of my lips.
Right on time.
---
Kris
The silence around this mansion was becoming unbearable.
Ever since Madam Cara...
No.
I couldn't even finish the thought.
The entire house had changed.
No laughter.
No conversations.
No life.
Even the birds seemed to avoid the estate.
I sighed heavily.
My boss didn't deserve this.
For all his flaws, one thing was certain.
He truly loved his wife.
Losing someone you love isn't something anyone simply gets over.
I silently prayed that one day he would find peace again.
Just then—
Knock! Knock! Knock!
My head snapped toward the gate.
"Who could that be?"
I glanced at my wristwatch.
Visitors at this hour?
I frowned.
"I hope it isn't that crazy woman again."
Some people simply refused to understand that love couldn't be forced.
No matter how rich, beautiful, or powerful they were.
The knocking came again.
Louder this time.
My irritation grew.
I marched toward the gate and flung it open.
Standing outside was a young man dressed in old, dusty clothes.
His hair was messy.
His slippers looked worn out.
He looked like someone who hadn't eaten properly in days.
I looked him up and down suspiciously.
"What do you want?" I asked coldly.
The young man remained silent.
I narrowed my eyes.
"What?"
"Has the cat got your tongue?"
"I asked who you are and what you're doing here."
Still...
No response.
I was about to slam the gate shut when my boss's voice echoed from behind me.
"Let him in."
I immediately turned around.
Greg was standing a short distance away, watching us calmly.
Without another word, he turned and walked back toward the mansion.
I frowned.
This didn't make any sense.
Still...
An order from Greg was not something anyone questioned.
I looked back at the stranger.
Pointing a warning finger at him, I said,
"I've got my eyes on you."
"If you're here to cause trouble, you'll regret it."
He merely lowered his head.
I stepped aside.
"Get in."
After locking the gate, I followed closely behind him all the way to the main building.
Something about him didn't sit right with me.
Maybe it was my instincts.
Maybe I was simply becoming overprotective.
But after everything that had happened...
I couldn't afford to trust strangers.
Not anymore.
---
A few minutes later, Greg came downstairs.
He looked from me to the newcomer before a faint smile appeared on his face.
The smile confused me even more.
He walked toward us calmly.
"As you all know," he began, "someone new has joined the household today."
He rested a hand on the young man's shoulder.
"He'll be working here from now on."
No explanation.
No questions.
Just an announcement.
The servants exchanged puzzled glances, but no one dared object.
I looked at the newcomer once more.
Something still felt strange.
Very strange.
But if my boss trusted him...
For now...
I'd keep my suspicions to myself.
Still, I wasn't taking my eyes off him.
Not for a second.
Greg gave one final nod before turning around.
"Carry on with your duties."
With that, he headed back upstairs, leaving everyone wondering who the mysterious newcomer really was.
And I had a feeling...
His arrival was about to change everything.
Meng
A man survives in this line of work by staying ten steps ahead of everyone else.
Trust no one.
Believe nothing until the evidence speaks.
Those two rules have kept me alive for years, and I wasn't about to abandon them now.
I began investigating the moment I stepped into Greg Vicson's estate disguised as a poor, hungry young man looking for work. Looking helpless was part of the act. People tend to lower their guard around someone they believe is harmless.
It worked.
Within days, I had earned the sympathy of almost everyone in the mansion. The servants pitied me because of the condition I was in when I first arrived. Some offered me extra food, while others chatted with me during breaks, never realizing they were giving me valuable information.
The more I observed, the clearer one thing became.
The security guards were not my suspects.
Neither was Greg's personal driver.
Those men were fiercely loyal to their boss. Their body language, routines, and reactions were too genuine to be fake. They carried themselves like men who would willingly risk their lives for Greg.
No...
If the culprit was inside this mansion, it wasn't them.
The next thing I examined was the security system.
Someone had erased the CCTV recordings.
Not damaged them.
Not disconnected the cameras.
The footage had been professionally wiped clean.
Whoever did that knew exactly what they were doing.
That alone told me I wasn't dealing with an ordinary criminal.
This was someone with training.
Someone disciplined.
Someone who knew how to enter a heavily guarded estate, leave no trace, and disappear without raising suspicion.
An assassin.
And judging from the precision of the operation, this wasn't their first assignment.
I slowly crossed one suspect off my mental list before moving to the next.
Maryan.
Poor woman.
Ever since Madam Cara collapsed, she had become a shadow of herself. She barely ate, hardly spoke to anyone, and constantly blamed herself for what had happened.
More than once, I found her sitting quietly behind the mansion, crying where she thought no one could see her.
Her guilt looked real.
Too real to be an act.
Still...
Feelings alone couldn't clear anyone.
Everyone remained a suspect until proven otherwise.
Then there was Treacy.
Unlike Maryan, she was remarkably composed.
Always quiet.
Always respectful.
Always doing exactly what was expected of her.
Most of the time, she could be found in the kitchen preparing meals. Whenever the work was done and Mr. Greg wasn't home, she often wandered into the garden, spending long moments tending flowers as though the outside world didn't exist.
To everyone else, she appeared perfectly normal.
Perhaps even too normal.
Something about her refused to sit right with me.
She moved with unusual control.
Every step.
Every turn.
Every movement.
There was no wasted motion.
She carried herself with the balance and awareness of someone who had received some form of physical training.
Maybe I was overthinking.
Or maybe my instincts were warning me for a reason.
Years of investigation had taught me one important lesson.
When something feels wrong...
It usually is.
For now, I kept my suspicions to myself.
Watching was better than accusing.
Patience solved more cases than force ever could.
The household had grown unusually quiet. Everyone carried out their duties carefully, speaking in hushed voices, afraid of provoking their grieving employer.
The entire mansion felt as though it were mourning alongside Greg.
As for me...
I had found the perfect place to continue my investigation.
The kitchen.
I genuinely loved food, so working there didn't feel like an assignment. Preparing meals gave me an excuse to spend hours around the servants, listening to their conversations, observing their habits, and learning things they never intended to reveal.
People often talked the most when they believed no one was paying attention.
And I intended to hear every single word.
Sooner or later...
Someone would make a mistake.
When that happened, I'd be ready.
Greg
I still couldn't understand why Meng was taking so long to uncover the identity of the person who poisoned Cara.
Every minute that passed felt like an eternity.
I glanced at the expensive watch on my wrist for what had to be the hundredth time. It had been over thirty minutes since I sent word for him to report to my room.
Thirty minutes.
For anyone else, that wasn't long.
For me, it was torture.
I rose from my chair and began pacing across the room, my hands buried deep inside my pockets. My mind refused to stay still.
Cara's pale face...
Her weak breathing...
The doctor's words...
"She was poisoned."
Those words had become a curse I couldn't escape.
Whoever dared touch my wife would wish they had never been born.
I had already buried enough tears.
The next thing I intended to bury was the culprit.
Just as impatience got the better of me and I reached for the bedroom door, a soft knock echoed through the room.
Knock.
Knock.
"Come in," I said coldly.
The door opened slowly.
Meng stepped inside with his usual calm expression.
"Good morning, Boss," he greeted respectfully. "Sorry to keep you waiting."
I folded my arms across my chest.
My patience had already expired.
"Skip the apology," I replied flatly.
"Tell me what you've found."
Meng nodded and walked closer.
"I've been observing everyone in the mansion."
He paused.
"Unfortunately, whoever did this is extremely careful."
That answer only made my anger grow.
"I don't pay you to tell me the obvious."
His expression remained unchanged.
"The CCTV footage has been completely erased. Every recording from that day is gone."
My jaw tightened.
"So someone inside the house knows exactly what they're doing."
"Exactly."
He continued.
"The security guards are clean."
"The drivers are clean."
"They've both been investigated."
I listened without interrupting.
"But..."
That single word immediately caught my attention.
"There are two people I'm still watching."
My eyes narrowed.
"Maryan..."
I frowned.
"No."
Meng nodded.
"I know she appears innocent."
"She's been blaming herself ever since Madam collapsed."
"She barely eats."
"She cries almost every day."
"I don't believe she's the culprit..."
"...but guilt can make innocent people behave strangely."
I remained silent.
"And the second?"
Meng took a deep breath.
"Treacy."
Now I looked directly at him.
"What about her?"
"She's too calm."
He continued carefully.
"She never panics."
"Never loses control."
"She works in the kitchen."
"Spends time in the garden."
"Keeps to herself."
"She rarely speaks."
"But something about her feels..."
He searched for the right word.
"...trained."
Silence filled the room.
I slowly sat down.
"Keep watching."
"I don't want assumptions."
"I want proof."
Meng nodded.
"Understood."
"If she's innocent?"
I asked.
"Leave her alone."
"But if she isn't..."
I looked straight into his eyes.
"...don't let her realize we're onto her."
Meng smiled faintly.
"I was hoping you'd say that."
He turned to leave.
"Oh..."
He stopped at the doorway.
"I've also begun looking into Madam Cara's background."
That instantly caught my attention.
"What about it?"
"The Miltons may not have told you everything."
I froze.
"What do you mean?"
"I'm not certain yet."
"But I think Cara's real identity may be much bigger than any of us imagined."
Before I could ask another question, Meng quietly left the room.
Leaving me alone...
...with even more questions than answers.

Gracie
The moment I returned from the States after my humiliating encounter with Greg, I went straight home.
Not because I wanted comfort.
Because I wanted answers.
The mansion was exactly the same as I had left it—grand, luxurious, and lifeless.
The servants greeted me politely, but I ignored every single one of them.
My heels echoed against the marble floor as I stormed toward the living room.
There they were.
My parents.
Laughing.
Drinking wine.
Completely unaware that their daughter had just been humiliated by the only man she had ever loved.
Something inside me snapped.
"Dad!"
"Mum!"
My voice echoed through the house.
Both of them looked up immediately.
The moment my mother saw the tears streaming down my face, she hurried over.
"Oh, sweetheart..."
"What happened?"
She wrapped her arms around me, gently rubbing my back.
That only made me cry harder.
For the first time in my life...
I had been rejected.
Not politely.
Not gently.
Completely.
Greg had looked at me as though I disgusted him.
No man had ever dared look at me that way.
Men admired me.
Chased me.
Spoiled me.
Feared disappointing me.
But Greg...
Greg treated me like I meant absolutely nothing.
It hurt.
More than I wanted to admit.
I cried until my breathing became uneven.
By then, my father had already joined us.
His face had turned frighteningly dark.
Mr. Richard slowly folded his sleeves.
His eyes burned with fury.
"Who?"
His voice was dangerously calm.
"Tell me who made my daughter cry like this."
I slowly lifted my head.
Looking at both of them.
Then...
A smile appeared on my face.
Not a happy smile.
A dangerous one.
"It's Greg."
The atmosphere instantly changed.
My father's expression hardened.
"Greg Vicson?"
I nodded.
"He got married."
Both my parents stared at me.
"He what?"
"He married another woman."
My mother gasped.
"Impossible."
"It's all over the news."
"He chose someone else."
"And then..."
I remembered his words.
"You disgust me."
My hands slowly clenched into fists.
"He told me he'd rather die than marry me."
Silence.
The room became so quiet that even the ticking clock sounded loud.
Then my father laughed.
A cold...
merciless laugh.
"So..."
"Vicson's son thinks he can insult my daughter?"
He reached for his phone.
"No."
"This isn't over."
I watched him dial a number.
A slow smile spread across my lips.
No woman...
No matter how beautiful...
No matter how innocent...
...was going to take what belonged to me.
Greg may think this story has ended.
But he's wrong.
It has only just begun.
I looked out the window, my eyes filled with dangerous determination.
Cara...
Enjoy being Mrs. Greg while you still can.
Because I always get what I want.
And this time...
I refuse to lose.
