AUTHOR’S POV “Lev, I was scared!” Iva choked, pleading, but Lev snapped, his voice ripping through the cabin, raw and savage. “So you just—what? Ran off to raise my son in some godforsaken dusty village without me?” “Lev—” “No!” He tore himself away as she desperately reached for him, getting to his feet. “You should have told me! I had the right to know!” “I know!” She sobbed. “I’m sorry—” “Sorry? Sorry is not enough, Iva. Look what happened because of you. Look now--my son is taken. Because of what you did! Because of your selfishness!” Iva crumpled, shaking. “I’m sorry, Lev…” But her continuous apologies only lit the fuse further, and Lev roared, grabbing the nearest object, a framed map bolted to the wall, and ripping it off so hard it snapped in two.
