AUTHOR’S POV
Nik’s eyes widened at Alexsey’s last words, and his voice shot out, thin and trembling. “What are you talking about?” He shook his head frantically. “I would never hurt Akari. I swear it.”
Alexsey opened his mouth, fury already coiling, ready to remind him what happened when people lied to him. But Castor surged instead, saying Nik was telling the truth.
The words hit Alexsey like a blow, and he stiffened, confusion slicing through his rage. He asked Castor if he was sure, despite knowing wolves never got it wrong, and Castor did not hesitate or doubt.
“I know you brought the poison,” Alexsey said coldly. “I know Phyllis and Wanda gave it to you.”
But Nik shook his head harder, panic breaking loose. “No. No—I didn’t. I would never. I would never hurt Akari.”
