The moment the mechanism disengaged, chaos erupted. Alexsey had been pacing near the hidden entrance, while Akari's wolf remained fixed at the exact location where the hideout lay beneath the ground.
The pup's growl had been constant, its small body tense with purpose when the earth shifted, and the stone groaned. Alexsey turned just as the door flew open, and a massive brown wolf charged out in a blur of fur and fury.
The scent of the pup struck Phyllis' wolf like a bolt of lightning, and something within it snapped. It became feral.
With a deafening snarl, the brown wolf charged straight for Akari's pup, clearly intending to tear it apart. "NO!" Alexsey screamed as he lunged forward, throwing himself between them just as the pup leapt to meet the brown wolf in midair.
