IVA Nik stayed quiet for a moment, his expression unreadable, before he finally said, “I don’t know what broke it.” I blinked at him, and he went on, rubbing the back of his neck. “I heard something fall… right as I drifted back to sleep. It was after Wanda came looking for you and I tried to get up, but my head felt too heavy because I’d just fallen asleep when she knocked.” His mention of Wanda looking for me made my eyes dart away from him, guilt tightening around my ribs.
