AWR Chapter 29: Don't lie to me

Months swiftly passed when I said 'yes' to Mr. Reike's proposal. In a span of less than five months, I was his fiancee already.

Looking at him, I'm feeling grateful to him instead of loving him. That's the clearest of all feelings that I feel for him. I even accompanied him to Lyn's house because it is also my personal request. He agreed with no hesitation.

"I heard the news my dear! I am really happy for you and Mr. Reike!"

I blushed a little that Lyn poked my arm as she teased me.

"You know what, Miranda? Honestly speaking, I really love how Mr. Reike has chosen you to be his next wife. If I were him, I'll also do the same." She added as we sat down on her soft bed. She's now on her last trimester and the doctors even gave her the tentative date of when she will give birth.

"Thanks. Until now, I couldn't believe it myself. Of all people that he could choose, why would it be me, right?"

"I am sure Mr. Reike had seen something in you that made him so sure about you."

"Thanks, Lyn. You always make me feel better. I can see that you're getting better every time. Look at how gorgeous you are, my dear. You're also in your sixth month or less, right?"

"Don't worry Lyn. You'll be the first to give birth before me. You will experience it as well!"

"Yeah, I couldn't help but to feel pressured and excited at the same time." She smiled with excitement.

"Do you know the gender of your baby, dear Lyn?"

"No. I didn't. I want to surprise mom and dad for their coming grandson or granddaughter. Dad disagreed with this first but mom convinced him that's why he didn't insist."

"I am also excited about your baby, dear. I want to be one of those people who will see your adorable baby."

"Don't worry. I will inform you as soon as possible. I want you to be there in my happiest moment." I hugged my best friend again. Knowing that we share the same situation, everything seemed to be easy now. I am always grateful for her because of her great help for me.

"How was Mr. Reike, by the way?" As she let go of my hug, she leaned closer to me and whispered as she giggled. I gently poked her on her arm with my elbow.

"He's very sweet and adorable."

"Yeah, and you know what, dear? I noticed him smiling a lot after your engagement. He seemed to be inspired more because you came into his life." I chuckled because of her epic reactions.

"He looked really happy and inspired today compared to the previous months. I really thought at first, he didn't know how to smile."

"Really? Well, I also thought of it, too. He's grumpy most of the time."

"You did the magic trick. I knew it."

"He said he loved me."

"Do you love him?" I looked into my bestfriend's eyes as I sighed.

"Everything can be learned. Mr. Reike is a good man. I should give back to what he's showing me."

"You should 'give back'? What kind of statement is that? When you love someone, you should give it freely even to the point of you loving and not being loved back."

"Yes, I agree to that. I even experienced that. But then, can love sustain my baby? Sometimes I don't believe love alone is enough. We have to think of the practical side of it." Miranda said as she looked at her best friend's face. Her facial expression seemed to agree with Miranda's point of view since they have the same experience when it comes to love.

"Yep. We should consider ourselves lucky because of what we're experiencing now." Lyn said as she nodded.

"Oh, by the way, how were your siblings and mom doing?" Lyn asked out of the blue. Miranda showed her the best smile she ever had.

"They are in good hands. They were so proud of me because I was able to give them their needs and wants. I even let mom renovate our small house."

"What a development!" Lyn exclaimed as if feeling her bliss as well.

"It's all because of him. I am really thankful that he is supportive of me no matter what I'll do. He also went with me as I went shopping. He's really cool. By the way, how was your ex-,boyfriend?"

"He seldom visits me. I guess he is only forced by his parents to do so."

"Isn't he excited that you're both gonna have a baby in the future?"

"I don't think so. I knew him. When he's tired of something, he'll easily let it go no matter how valuable it is for others."

"At least his mom and dad were full of support to you until you will give birth."

"Mom told me that he'll visit me anytime this afternoon." She said while blushing.

"Do you still love him?"

"Sad to say, yes. Of course he's my first boyfriend and the father of my baby. We've been in a relationship for almost three years even if I am still in college, just like you do."

"Love could really do a lot of things."

"Yeah, and I would agree the most when you say love is crazy, most of the time."

We looked into each other's eyes as we smiled. With the same experience we're having, I could feel we're more than sisters because of how our current situation is molding us.

"I also want to ask you the same question..." Lyn bit her lip as he cupped her cheeks.

"What question?" I asked with a puzzled look. She smiled as she gave me a malicious grin.

"Did you love Alexander, even once?" She said, not blinking her eyes. She's like wanting to not miss anything, even on how I will react to what she just asked.

I just looked at her with a blank expression.

"Sorry, you have your present fiancee now. Please don't mind my question."

"I guess let's leave anything from the past, dear Lyn. I want to move on, that's why I accepted Mr. Reike."

"I could also see that he's one, considerate soul. The important thing is, he's ready to accept everything in you, including your baby."

"I guess that's what matters the most. He's willing to accept everything in me." She nodded as she gave me a high five.

"Honey, did you have a great time?" Mr. Reike asked Miranda as he held her hand. She leaned closer to him as she hugged him sidewards as they sat on the backseat of the car. They are now heading home after almost a day of visiting Lyn. Mr. Reike talked a lot about business to Lyn's father-in-law.

"Thank you, love. We had a great time with my best friend Lyn."

"She's giving birth any time within this week or the next."

"Yeah, I am updated. Thank you for letting me visit her." She looked up to him as she met his gaze. He flashed a humble smile. Miranda leaned closer to his face and planted a smack on his lips. She could see him blushed all of a sudden as he avoided his gaze.

"You know what? You're cute."

He held my hand and kissed it. "I love you, Miranda Klay. I can't wait to call you Mrs. Miranda Reike."

"I love you too. You know that. I will try my best to love you with all my heart."

"Love can't be forced. It should be felt." I suddenly felt embarrassed of what I said just now. It made me speechless for a moment when he held my hand.

"I am not asking you to love me right away. What I want you to do is to just be right next to me at all times."

"I guess you can't love me at all times. I am not beautiful or sexy. I am not even considering myself desirable."

"If those were the only qualities that I am searching for in a woman, I tell you, I should've had a lot of them having those qualities."

I leaned my head closer to his chest as I touched my tummy. Everything seemed to be very fast but I don't mind at all. He's the one by my side and that's the most important for me this time.

"Let's get married." He said out of the blue. I got up and looked at him all of a sudden, without blinking.

"Love, are you serious?"

"I don't want to take everything for so long. I am sure about you and I want to spend my life with you."

"I don't know what to say. What about your two daughters? They're the same age as mine."

"I don't care. As long as I am happy, they can't interfere with it."

I looked at him straight into his eyes. His facial expression is too tough. I want to melt his gaze.

"I love you so much, without any doubt. Will you accept my proposal?"

"Yes, love." I answered with misty eyes. He hugged me as he planted a kiss on my lips. We planned the wedding as soon as possible, together with his two daughters. We arrived at their house and we went to his room right away.

He handed me the two pictures of his daughters. 

"I think you never knew anyone of them yet. My eldest is Deiana and my youngest is Denysse. They both finished their studies in the U.S.A. I was widowed for more than ten years now. I guess they will be happy for me if they will know that I will get married again."

"Will they accept me, love?" I couldn't help but ask him about this one. It is normal that his daughters will doubt about me getting married to their father.

"I'm their father. They have no choice but to accept you for me because I chose you."

I smiled as I accepted the picture frame of their family when I'm stunned for a moment.

"This can't be..." I murmured as I looked at his eldest.

"What's wrong?" He looked at me with a puzzled look. He shifted his gaze on the picture frame and my facial reaction. I shook my head from side to side as I met his gaze.

"Is your eldest a model of some designer clothes?" I tried my best to think of an alibi for him to not ask me further about what I just said.

"Why, yes. She's a popular model and a good friend of Kendall Jenner. She's been a Victoria's secret model since her debut."

"Wow, no wonder she's really beautiful." I said with full of amazement. Mr. Reike held both of my shoulders and rested his head on my right.

"You're also stunning and beautiful, honey. Even without any make up. Your smile alone can complete my day."

"You're so sweet." I turned in front of him as I hugged him. I placed both of my arms on his shoulders. He placed his hands on my waist as he pulled me closer to him. When my baby bump reached his stomach, he chuckled right away.

"I guess this baby is reminding us to slow down because he doesn't want to."

We both laughed and he silenced me with a smack on my lips. I closed my eyes and pulled his head closer to mine as I savored his mouth. We let go and I can see him smiling a lot.

"I love you so much honey. I badly wanted to marry you."

"M-Me too." I said as I looked at his eyes that's full of longing.

Days turned into weeks. After a long time, everyone seemed very excited for the arrival of the two sisters, Deiana and Denysse. They plan to come three days before their father's wedding. There has been a lot of preparations going on inside the grand mansion.

A lot of our maids and guards were going to and fro because of the preparations. On the other hand, I am more than nervous rather than excited because Mr. Reike's eldest daughter is familiar to me. I have met her not only once, twice but many times already that I cannot simply get her out of my memory. She's mostly the reason for my misery.

 How can I ever forget her? She's the ex-girlfriend of the father of my child.
