I finally woke up, and I just lay there staring at the white walls. Today we must see my father. I know all kids must bury their parents at one point, but I thought I had many years before I had to bury mine. I didn't think that my father was going to be murdered the day after my 18th birthday, and I would have to bury him a couple of days later. I have decided I'm not going to college. I'm not going to do anything but figure out who murdered my father. Even if it's the last thing I do, I will figure out who did this to my dad and why. I got up out of bed, and I went into the bathroom, and I showered. I came out of the room and got dressed. I walked out and to the hangout room, straight over to the table where my brother was sitting. I am not going, I said. OK, my brother said with a confused look on his face. Where are we not going, asked Meredith. I'm not going to Harvard Law School, I said. My brother just looked at me for a minute and then said, “Well then, what are you going to do? I'm going to stay here with you guys, and I'm going to find out who murdered our dad. Even if it's the last thing I do, I'll figure out who did it, and I will figure out why he was killed. I almost yelled it. OK, OK, my brother said calm down, calm down, have a seat, let's eat some breakfast, and we'll discuss it. No, I said you and the boys go into that room, and you will vote if I am in or not. Like I said, I want to help figure out who killed my dad. I will do it with or without help, I said. Ok, but you need to tell me your plan, so why don't we sit right here and have some breakfast with me, and you tell me your plan? I plan to go undercover, and Meredith too, if she'll go with me, and I plan to act like I'm a New Girl around here. I plan to go to the corner. What corner did my brother ask almost demandingly? You know the one I said the corner where all the hookers go stand. Who else knows everything around here? It’s because they get picked up by bikers, and bikers get drunk all the time and tell them secrets. And if I must become one of those girls temporarily to figure out who killed my dad, I will. Nothing is going to get in my way. I'm with you,” Meredith said, almost jumping out of her seat with joy. I'll go undercover with you, and I'll help you figure out who murdered your dad. This is messed up, and nobody should have to go through this. Thanks, I said with a smile on my face, and then I looked at my brother. So now it's time for you to call a meeting, and you and the boys go into that room. You told them everything I said to you, and you did a vote because one way or another, Meredith and I are going to go undercover and do this. Ok, my brother said I will call the meeting, and I will take him in there, and I will do exactly what you said, but you are going to sit here and at least eat some breakfast for me. Fine, I said. A plate of food was put down. I took a couple of bites, my brother stood up from his chair, tucked in, said Meeting, get everybody into the secret room he said. Okay, said Derek, and off he went.
