Chapter Thirteen With the election only a week away, Davis and the man he had selected to be his Vice President were meeting with advisors on campaign strategy. Based on the most recent poll results, it was pretty much assured they would soon fill the two highest positions in the free world. Like most of the recent meetings Davis had with his campaign team, this one was turning into a pre-celebration party. Davis’ wife, Mary Elizabeth, who preferred to be called Betty, was at his side for the final push toward his election. She never talked much about herself, but it had been reported in several periodicals that shortly after her marriage, she had undergone surgery to correct a spinal problem.
