Chapter Thirty-Two
After he glanced at the clock, Darque called Yoda to explain what had happened to Cheryl and Penny.
“What’s up?” Yoda asked. “You never call just to find out about the weather.”
“Somebody tried to take out Penny and Cheryl today, and in Cheryl’s case, they succeeded. I believe the attempt was connected to this investigation.”
There was silence on the other end of the line.
“Do you know who did it?” Yoda finally asked.
“There were several involved,” Darque said, “and I’m still trying to compile a list of all the players, but I know who’s going to pay the price in the short run.”
“If you want any help … ” Yoda began.
Darque cut him off before he could complete the sentence. “That won’t be necessary,” Darque said. “I’ll take care of it.”
“I thought you might,” Yoda
