Chapter Fifty After the euphoria of her husband winning the Presidential Election the night before, the KGB message informing Betty of the restaurant shooting immediately ended any idea that the rest of her mission would be easy. Unless the shooting was a freak accident, she had to assure herself that the operation wasn’t in jeopardy. No information had been developed to indicate the slightest awareness of her assignment, but she had to wonder if somewhere along the line, someone had made a mistake that might destroy Moscow’s plans for the future of the world. If there had been a blunder, and it could be blamed on her, the hero-of-the-people dream she harbored would never become a reality. She would have wasted most of her life preparing for her own downfall instead of her immortality. I
