Chapter Fifty-Three
Kostchenko was a bit surprised when he received a call from the FBI concerning the restaurant shooting. The agent explained that investigators had found something a bit strange at the scene, and wondered if Kostchenko might be interested in being briefed on the matter. Even with diplomatic immunity, it’s usually a good idea to meet with the FBI when summoned, especially if it is disguised as an offer of information. They had obviously found something they wanted him to know, and they wanted to study his reaction to the news in a controlled environment.
“I’ll be there shortly,” he said, and hung up the phone.
He found the cat and mouse game the two agencies played with each other amusing at times, but the visit might help alleviate some of the foreboding he felt about
