Chapter 11
Ryder’s POV
When I wake up the next morning, Seraphina is snuggling in my arms, fast asleep. The smell of her shampoo is so intoxicating that I can’t help but inhale again. She’s so perfect.
Sex with her is the best I’ve ever had. Although I didn’t intend to have s*x with her, I couldn’t get enough of her after the first round. We went again and again till she was spent. It’s like an avalanche with her. It’s crazy that she has this effect on me even though I only just met her. I can’t even wrap my mind around anyone having her. The thought is sickening, yet I can’t be with her.
Very carefully, I remove her body from mine, not wanting to wake her up from sleep. She’s so beautiful in her sleep. I fight the urge to reach out for her and plant a kiss on her forehead. I have to get out of the bed and continue business before someone from the pack notices this.
I press a hand on my forehead. I shouldn’t have had s*x with Seraphina. This will only complicate things between us because now that I’ve seen all of her, the desire to have her again will bite at me, and I’m certain that it will be potent enough to consume me. Distractions like that are not what I need right now.
I’ll always picture what it is to have her at my mercy while my c**k is impaling her. Now that I’m thinking of s*x with her again, I’m growing hard. I rise from the bed and pick up my phone. It’s still early in the morning, but I’m surprised to see Blake’s call and texts on my phone.
Blake wants to meet me urgently this morning. I freshen up, and when I head out of the room, Seraphina is still awake. I consider leaving a note, but I think against it. It’s too cheesy to do that. Instead, on impulse, I plant a kiss on her forehead and just head out, planning to have a conversation with her after my schedule for the day.
My day begins with an intense study in my study room before I ask for Blake to be sent in.
“I suppose this must be rather important for you to send a text and call. What’s the matter, Uncle?” I ask, shelving the books I spent the last two hours reading.
“You seem quite radiant and super agile today. A great night, I presume?” Blake asks, taking the seat in front of mine, and I c**k my head.
“I guess you can say that. What brings you here?” I ask again, shifting the attention back to the reason for Blake’s urgent meeting.
“Seraphina…” The mention of her name makes me raise a brow.
“She’s not someone fit to be the Luna of this pack even if you considered choosing her.”
“What does that mean?”
“I wanted to know if truly, she was chosen by the Moon Goddess for you; it turns out there must have been a mistake somewhere. The Moon Goddess couldn’t have made such a choice for you,” he adds.
“What did you discover?”
“Let’s just say that I put Seraphina to a test. She failed, Alpha Ryder.”
“Can you quit talking in riddles? Go straight to the point, Blake?” I almost snap, growing impatient.
“Turns out that Seraphina is nothing but a cheap woman whose worth is a measly $200,000. She’s not worth your attention.”
“Now, that’s enough, Uncle!” I hit my palm against the table, having heard enough of Blake ridiculing Seraphina. “I may not want her as my mate, but I will not have you speak about her in such a manner, Uncle.”
“I knew you wouldn’t believe just my words, which was why I came with all the proof you would need.” Blake hands me some papers, which I snatch from him. It contains an account statement with Seraphina’s full name. I scan the paper, wondering why Blake has this.
“Look carefully at the last credit transaction. She took money from me in exchange for leaving here for good. It was an offer I hoped she’d say no to if she truly wanted to be with you, but much to my surprise, she took the money. She doesn’t want you. All she’s ever wanted from the onset was money. All she cared about was to offset her father’s loan and probably whisk even more money away while at it. She’s just like other women who are after your money.”
I shake my head. “No, uncle. You’re mistaken. Seraphina isn’t like the other women. I may not know so much about her, but one thing is for sure: she’s not after my money. Trust me,” I say with a nod.
“You have no idea what game she’s playing,” Blake says, but I stand my ground.
“I know you’re worried about me, but I know what I’m saying, Uncle. If she was after my money, she would have jumped at it the first time I offered to offset her loan. I did try more than once, and it was futile. She refused my help.”
“That’s because that’s what she wants you to think. She’s trying so hard to be in your good books so that you won’t figure out that this is what she’s always wanted.”
My brows furrow. Confusion sets in. Could Blake really be right?
I check the account statement again, and indeed, Seraphina received a huge sum of money.
“I think there is only one way to find out the truth,” Blake says.
“The loan sharks.”
I got their contact a few days ago. I dial the number, my eyes glued to Blake, and the call is answered on the second ring.
I ask if the person is from Alpha Logan, and he answers in the affirmative.
Before I can even ask anything, he says, “Seraphina ran on some luck when she fled to the SilverRidge pack. Otherwise, she would have paid with her life instead. I was so sure she wouldn’t have been able to pay the loan sum if she hadn’t stepped foot in that pack.”
I’m too stunned to even say anything. Blake was right all along. Seraphina took money from him.
