Chapter 6

Okay, I should have listened to the maids when they said I should go back to my room. It was now that I understood what they meant by ‘staying upstairs to avoid being embarrassed again’. I would not have been like this. I buried my face deep in my pillow. I wanted this feeling of embarrassment to fade away like a mist. I squeezed my pillow. I held it so tight that my palms ached. I don’t know what happened last night but I wish I knew, but all the more, I wished Alpha Ryder hadn’t done what he did. I stayed there for a while like I was some sculpture. I never want to leave that position anymore. I never want to leave this room anymore. I never wanted to see them again, but I knew they were only wishes. There was a knock on the door and I thought my heart stopped beating for a while. No matter how I tried to block out everyone, they kept coming back. I wanted so much to yell, to scream at the top of my voice and tell everyone to back off, but I know that I had better be prepared to be torn into pieces. “Aurora” I slept still. I already knew that it was Mabel, but I didn’t care anymore. “I’m coming in,” Mabel said. I heard the knob of the door move but I still did not move. The door creaked open and I heard soft footsteps approaching me. Mabel’s hands massaged my back. I could feel the warmth of her hands on my clothed skin. I could never reject her company. She was the only person that understood me. She was the only person I talked to. She was the only person that knew how to make me feel better. I got up slowly. Immediately, she embraced me so tight that I almost choked. She let go of me and we both stared at each other for some minutes. She smiled at me. I knew what she was trying to do. She was trying to reassure me that everything was okay. “What happened yesterday?” I asked. Mabel kept on staring at me. I gave a questioning look. “Do you really want to remember all that?” she asked, rolling her eyes. “Yes....yes Mabel....if no one can tell me, you can!” I said. “Alright!” Mabel exclaimed. There was silence. I was patiently waiting for the answer. My patience was running out. “Do you really have to know?” Mabel asked. “Oh Mabel!” I yelled. “Okay okay....sorry I’ll tell you” “Well....you got drunk and began saying things....it was so embarrassing,” Mabel said, shrugging. “Oh!” I exclaimed, holding my head. “But it’s okay....,” Mabel tried assuring me. “I don’t even know what to say....I am always being humiliated....they derive pleasure in humiliating me,” I cut in. “Just let it go,” Mabel said, touching my shoulder. “And he just takes it upon himself to carry out the humiliation,” I said, lost in thoughts. I was lost in thoughts and staring at nothingness. I had forgotten Mabel was still here. “I know right,” Mabel’s voice pierced into my thoughts and I was in the present. “But he is so handsome....his smile alone is enough to make your day,” Mabel said. I gave her a stern look. What was she saying? “Ryder right?....I know it’s him....I’m sorry.... I shouldn’t have said that,” she said. “Yesterday, I was taken away to the forest and I was given a drink by someone I did not know. The only thing I remember is that he said that I already know who he is....so strange,” I said, rubbing my head. “Was he handsome? Was he good looking? Tell me about his features,” Mabel said, her eyes widening with excitement. “Mabel, I was drunk!” I shouted. “But you should have seen him well enough to know.” “He is handsome!” I blurted out. Mabel was surprised and then her lips expanded, revealing her set of teeth. I rubbed my head again. I couldn’t believe I said that. “His red eyes were scanning me, they were manipulative and for a moment, I couldn’t help but look at his lips....so succulent....I could almost taste it,” I said. I wished I could cover my mouth to avoid saying more. “Wow,” Mabel said. “So you wanted to kiss him?” she asked. “What? No!” I said immediately. “But you said you could almost taste his lips.” “I was only admiring it.” I knew I lied. “He offered me something to drink but I couldn’t take it because I didn’t know him. He told me that I already knew him....I was so confused. He told me he was sorry for what he did,” I continued. “What did he do?” Mabel asked. “How would I know?....I don’t know him,” I shrugged. “All I knew was that I was hot again,” I said. “He’s definitely your mate!” Mabel said. “Oh come on....you know what the sorcerer said....you know that very well....you also know that I am part human part wolf....you know that I can never have a mate!” I shouted. “Then why are you always hot at night and why were you hot when you were with the stranger yesterday?” Mabel questioned me. “It’s probably because of my nature,” I said. “You keep saying that....but I don’t think so....why can’t you see things from a different perspective?” Mabel asked. “I don’t know because I can’t seem to understand it....I am half wolf, half human and my human side surpasses my wolf blood....it could be my human side acting up....I’m sure of that....the reason for my hotness around the stranger last night....I can’t understand but it could be the same reason." I said. Mabel hated the way this conversation was going. She was trying so hard to convince me, but I was making her effort futile. “I don’t want to talk about this anymore Mabel....whenever I remember my nature, I become sad. This is the reason I am always humiliated. I wish I could always forget it,” I said. “It’s okay....I did not mean to remind you about it.” Mabel said. A sound came from outside my room. My eyes darted to the door. I was sure that Mabel’s eyes were on it too. “Was someone there?” she asked me. “I don’t think so.” I said. There was a knock on the door and I jerked. Mabel went to get it. It was a maid. “Aurora....Alpha Ryder requests your presence.” She said. I was convinced this time that my heart skipped a beat.
