A terraced pyramid form comprising successively receding stories“You’re such a jerk, Jacques.” Julia shook her head and released a dramatic sigh. She lifted a mug of steaming Earl Grey tea to her lips and breathed in the aroma. Too hot to sip, she set it down on the table. “I disagree.” A fried egg floated in a sea of grease on the bottom of a cereal bowl. I pointed at it, my fingernail not quite touching the length of translucent goop clinging to the edge of the yolk. “I don’t like egg-snot.” Julia exhaled and ignored me. Chastened, I pulled the plate of sausages towards me and examined them for flaws. My stomach growled, and I closed my eyes and tensed every muscle in my body as though in pain. A bullet through the shoulder and a wood shard embedded in my cheek didn’t touch the agony
