I crossed the Tainui Bridge in my truck, the tyres loud over the metal plates the council had installed to protect the crumbling asphalt. The road repair crew crowded together to wait for the storm to pass, rain bouncing off their orange safety helmets and pelting the road in waves. The metal plates created an interesting three beat at the legal speed and I liked it enough to make a complete turn around the roundabout and drive across it again.
