Chapter 9: The Wolf Who Sleeps

600 Words
The northern winds howled softly against the stone walls of the Werewolf stronghold as Alpha Ryker stood at the edge of the balcony, his arms crossed behind his back. The scent of pine and snow filled the air, but his thoughts were far from calm. The decision had been made at the meeting—one that would alter the fate of his family and his pack. Behind him, Luna Selina stepped closer, her presence grounding as always. “It is time,” she said quietly. “They deserve to know.” Ryker nodded once. “Call them.” Moments later, footsteps echoed through the chamber. First came Kaelith, his eldest son—tall, broad-shouldered, already carrying the strength and authority of a future Alpha. Beside him walked Nyra, sharp-eyed and composed, her aura calm yet fierce. And finally, trailing slightly behind them, was Aurora. Aurora’s steps were soft but sharp. Her silver-blonde hair fell loosely over her shoulders, her eyes bright yet uncertain. Unlike her siblings, there was no wolf stirring beneath her skin. No pull of power. No awakening. She was the Alpha’s youngest—and the only one who had not yet shifted. Ryker turned to face them. His gaze softened when it landed on Aurora. “There is something you must all know,” he began. “A decision has been made by the rulers of the kingdoms. A school is being built—neutral ground. Vampires, witches, and werewolves alike will send their children there.” Nyra’s brows knit together. “Vampires?” she asked sharply. “You’re sending us to a place tied to them?” “Not together,” Selina said calmly. “Each kingdom will have its own halls, its own boundaries. No mingling. Strict rules.” Kaelith crossed his arms. “And we were chosen?” Ryker nodded. “Yes. You three… and a select few others from our kingdom. Only those deemed vital to the future.” Aurora’s fingers curled into her sleeves. “All of us?” she asked softly. “Yes,” Ryker said without hesitation. “Especially you.” The room fell quiet. Kaelith’s head snapped toward his sister. “Father—Aurora hasn’t awakened yet. She doesn’t even have her wolf. Sending her away—” “I know,” Ryker cut in, his voice firm but not unkind. “That is precisely why you will go with her.” Nyra stepped closer to Aurora, resting a protective hand on her shoulder. “We’ll watch her,” she said immediately. “No one touches her. Not there. Not anywhere.” Ryker’s gaze hardened. “You will protect her with your lives if necessary. Aurora is… different. Her time will come, but until then, she must be guarded. The school is not just a place of learning—it is a test. Of patience. Of destiny.” Aurora looked up at her parents, uncertainty flickering across her face. “What if I never awaken?” she whispered. “What if I go there and I’m just… weak?” Selina knelt in front of her, cupping her daughter’s face gently. “Strength is not only found in fangs and claws, my moon,” she said softly. “Some wolves sleep longer because they are meant to wake differently.” Ryker added quietly, “And when you do awaken, Aurora… the world will feel it.” Kaelith exhaled slowly, placing a hand over his sister’s head. “You won’t face this alone,” he promised. “I swear it.” Nyra nodded. “We leave together. We return together.”
