SERAPHINA POV My eyelids fluttered open slowly as a sharp pain hammered against my skull, making me groan. For a moment, I remained still, trying to gain some strength. My vision was blurry and my thoughts sluggish. Where was I? I pushed myself upright and blinked several times. The surrounding room was unfamiliar and small. A small bed occupied one corner while a wooden stool sat beside it. The walls were plain with only a single bulb hanging on the ceiling. This wasn't my bedroom, and this wasn't my father's mansion. This isn't even the home I remembered. Then it dawned on me as I remembered the ballroom, the masked man..."Oh God..." I had been kidnapped. I jumped off the bed and stumbled towards the door. "Hello?!" I began pounding against the metal door in fear and panic. "Is anybody there?" "Please! Please let me out! My father will pay whatever you want! Just let me go!" My voice cracked as tears blurred my vision. I couldn't remember how I'd lost consciousness. Had someone drugged me? Or was I injected? I don't know, and I can't recall. But one thing was certain. The man who took me wasn't ordinary. There had been something dangerous about him. He looked powerful and commanding, and he had the kind of authority that couldn't be bought. "Can you hear me?" I cried. "Please! Let me out!" Suddenly the door swung open. I yelped as I stumbled backward and crashed onto the floor, landing on my ass. "Ouch!" I winced. My gaze shot upward, and there he was....The masked man, standing in the doorway. Those dark eyes of his locked into mine with terrifying calmness. He stepped inside and shut the door behind him as it made a clicking sound. The sound echoed through the empty room, and fear wrapped around my chest, making me crawl backward. And then he started advancing. One step, then another, and another. Until my back hit the edge of the bed, leaving me with nowhere left to run. "Who...who...who are you?" My voice came out shakily, and I bit my inner cheeks. He stopped and crouched in front of me. Close enough to smell the expensive cologne clinging to him. His eyes swept over me coldly. "So this is Russell Valentine's successor?" Mockery was laced in his tone, and my jaw clenched. "You didn't answer my question." I glared at him. "I never said I was going to answer that" A shiver rushed down my spine, and God knows that I hated how intimidating he was. I hated how his mere presence filled the room, and I hated how my body reacted every time he looked at me. I searched around desperately for something, anything I could use as a weapon, but saw nothing. No lamp, no vase, nothing at all. Well, it's fine, I'd use my fists then, I thought to myself. Without warning, I threw a punch at him, and his hand shot out instantly and caught my wrist. My eyes widened in shock for a moment, but still I swung my other hand, and he caught that too. Now both my wrists were trapped in one hand, like I weighed nothing. "Let go of me!" I struggled furiously. "I said let go!" If I wasn't pissed a while ago, then now I am. His free hand grabbed my chin, forcing my face upward. My breath caught as those dark eyes studied me. "So weak for a principessa," he scoffed. The arrogance in his tone made my blood boil. "Shut the f**k up!!" His lips twitched beneath the mask in amusement. The bastard was f*****g amused. He suddenly pulled me upright, and my body slammed against his chest, a small gasp escaping my lips. For several seconds, he simply stared silently at me like he was trying to figure me out. "Why are you hiding your face behind a damn mask?" I demanded, and no response came from him. "Is it because you're ugly?" I mocked, and I watched his eyes narrow. I'd finally annoyed him; that's a success. "You talk too much," he spat, squeezing my hands. "And you're a coward," I retorted, and he let out a low, dark sound that felt intimidating. "You clearly don't know who I am, do you?" "Like I care who the f**k you are?" I don't know why I was being a badass at that moment with my abductor. His eyes flashed, and I wasn't sure whether he wanted to kill me or kiss me. But neither possibility comforted me anyway. Then I noticed a small knife tucked at the side of his belt. This is an opportunity...one that demands my escape. He shifted slightly, just enough, and I moved fast. My hand shot towards the knife. I ripped it free and drove it downwards. "f**k!" The blade sliced into his hand as blood instantly rushed out. He released me, letting go of my hands, and I didn't wait. Instead, I ran straight for the door. My fingers wrapped around the handle. I yanked it open and bolted into the hallway. I sprinted down the corridor as fast as my legs could carry me. Footsteps echoed behind me, then shouts followed. "Hey, you!" I turned to a corner, then another. My heart pounded wildly as I ran in fear. Then suddenly I crashed into a hard chest as strong arms grabbed my shoulders firmly. I looked up slowly in fear and froze when I saw who was in front of me. No.....No......No..... It couldn't be. The man standing before me looked familiar, very familiar, and it was the stranger from the charity gala. The handsome man I'd spoken to before everything went wrong. The man who had smiled at me. The man whose face I couldn't stop thinking about. His expression was unreadable, and behind me the injured masked man approached. Blood still dripping from his hand. Then he reached up and pulled the mask off his face with annoyance. My breath stopped immediately. The face beneath it was identical. The same piercing eyes, the same jawline, the same man. Wait!!!! They're twins. My gaze darted between them in terror and horror. One standing before me and one behind me. The stranger from the gala smiled slowly, the same way he smiled at me, and this time around it sent chills down my spine. "Don't tell me you were trying to run away from us, princess. Don't you know who we are?" He asked with a mocking smile dancing around his face. The other brother flexed his injured hand. His eyes never left mine, and then he said, "Welcome to the Bratva world, principessa." My entire body went numb as my legs wobbled. The Bratva brothers? Oh God. How can I not know the Bratva brothers? The one mafia family that we've been warned not to mess with. What have I gotten myself into? And more importantly... What do they even want from me?
