Chapter Twenty-Two - Eyes on Them

374 Words
The change wasn’t loud. It didn’t arrive with a kiss in the open or hands held across the compound. But the club felt it all the same. Something had shifted. It was in the way Ronan lingered just a little longer when Evelyn entered a room. The way his hand always found the small of her back when they passed each other. The way her eyes no longer dropped to the floor—but lifted, soft and steady, to meet his. That morning in the garage, while Ronan talked strategy with Maddox and two of the prospects, Jules leaned against the doorway, sipping her coffee with a smirk. She caught Evelyn walking by and tilted her head toward the group. “They’re watching you now.” Evelyn blinked. “Who?” “The club,” Jules said, tone casual but eyes sharp. “You and Ronan. There’s a different air around you two.” Evelyn’s stomach fluttered. “Is it obvious?” “To anyone who’s paying attention? Yeah. But not in a bad way.” Jules gave her a wink. “He looks at you like he’d kill a man just for making you flinch.” Evelyn glanced over to where Ronan stood, his arms crossed, listening to Maddox—but his eyes slid to her the second he sensed her gaze. That slow, heated look of his. He didn’t smile. He didn’t need to. She looked away, cheeks warm. Behind her, Remy joined Jules, snagging the last of the coffee. “You feel it too?” Jules nodded. “Big shift.” Remy grinned. “It’s about time.” Later that afternoon, Dani, always blunt, passed Evelyn in the kitchen and muttered, “So when’s the man gonna finally make you scream?” Evelyn nearly choked on her tea. Dani laughed and patted her back. “I’m just saying—it’s written all over you. That man is done for. And honestly? So are you.” And Evelyn? She didn’t deny it. Because they were right. Everyone felt it. This wasn’t just about two people crossing a line anymore. It was a slow collision of loyalty, fire, and something dangerously close to love. And it wasn’t a secret. Not anymore.
