Chapter Two Peter seemed to linger over his breakfast Thursday morning. Jackie was as jumpy as hell, of course, and couldn’t wait to get him out of the house. In the bedroom she went through the various options but finally decided on simple jeans and a white cotton shirt. Peter finally gathered up his briefcase and she saw him out the front door. Moments later he was back again. “You forgot the outside light,” he said, pointing over his head. “I’ll get the god-damned light,” she sneered irritably and flipped the switch. Then leaning against the closed door, she listened to the sound of his car rolling down the drive.
