The training field was still buzzing. Everyone had seen what happened—Jake beating Logan without even shifting. It should have been a moment of pride, but the murmurs around me carried another weight.
“Too strong for someone wolfless.”“That wasn’t natural.”“Did you see the way Logan fell?”
I clenched my fists.
Jake leaned toward me, his voice low. “Don’t listen to them.”
But I did. Every word pierced me.
Roman stepped forward, raising his voice. “Alpha Aarhea, with all respect, doesn’t this concern you?”
I looked at him sharply. “Concern me? Why should it? Jake won fairly.”
Roman tilted his head. “Fairly… or unnaturally? A man without a wolf defeating a trained warrior who shifted? Forgive me, Alpha, but it doesn’t add up.”
