Aarhea’s Point of View
I sat on the balcony, the moonlight spilling across my hands. My thoughts had been a storm since I confronted Jake. No past. No records. No answers. Just silence.
The door creaked open. Jake stepped out, quiet as always, and leaned against the railing.
“You’ve been avoiding me,” he said softly.
I didn’t look at him. “I don’t know what to think anymore.”
“I know.” His voice carried a weight I couldn’t ignore. “And I know I’ve given you every reason to doubt me.”
I finally met his eyes. “Then why not just tell me the truth, Jake? Why keep me in the dark?”
He took a step closer. “Because the truth will bring more danger than peace. You think knowing will calm your heart—but it won’t. It will only put a target on your back.”
