In nineteen sixty-nine, the company transferred Billy to a Sears store in Hershel, Texas. Kenneth returned from Vietnam a year and a half prior and went back to work for Billy. When Billy transferred, Kenneth transferred to the same store moving his wife, child, and mother Wilma with him. Billy earned a significant raise and, for the first time, wasn’t struggling to pay the bills. He missed Wilma dearly, and felt so happy she would be moving to Texas with Kenneth. As far as Billy knew, Kenneth did not know of their feelings. Meanwhile, Roberta made Billy miserable at home, and her pill addiction and bulimia were growing out of control.
