Lana had been living in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, ever since her family moved to Texas. She never regretted her decision. She never got along with her parents, and they never seemed to like her and blamed her for everything.
After the family relocated to Texas, she worked odd jobs in different places for two years. One job in a shoe factory with a bunch of aged women scared her half to death. These women worked in the factory for years, and Lana became terrified she would end up being old and working there. A woman she worked with mentioned that she had a sister who managed a grocery store in town. One day on their lunch break, this woman introduced Lana to her sister Edna.
