Over the year since Albert passed, Billy did his best to keep the farm running. When Stevie didn’t pass out or run the streets, he’d help. When Roberta passed out from the pills, Billy would race to the phone to call Wilma. One winter morning, Roberta didn’t wake up at her usual time. Billy went into her room, trying to wake her up, finding her dead. Feeling frozen as shock took over his body, he fell to his knees by the side of the bed, holding his dead wife’s hand. “Oh, Roberta, please no. Wake up.” Weeks later, an autopsy showed an overdose of opiates. As Billy sat in his house alone, thinking about the years that had passed taking care of Stevie and Roberta, he realized he felt resentful. Billy gave up everything he ever wanted.
