Chapter 35 — The Hidden Heir

475 Words
Lucas read the document again. Then again. But the words didn’t change. Noah was the key to the Knight family legacy. Not because of money. Not because of power. Because of a secret that had been hidden for generations. --- Ella looked at Lucas. “Tell me what this means.” Lucas stayed silent. Because for the first time in his life… He didn’t know what to say. The man standing in front of them finally spoke. “The Knight family has a rule.” Lucas looked at him. “What rule?” “Only a direct heir can control certain parts of the family empire.” Ella frowned. “But Noah is a child.” The man nodded. “Exactly. That’s why they wanted him hidden.” --- Lucas’s hands tightened. “My family separated me from Ella because of a company?” The man shook his head. “No.” A pause. “They separated you because they were afraid of losing control.” --- Ella looked at Noah sleeping in the other room. All she ever wanted was to protect him. A normal life. A happy childhood. Not a battle over power. --- Lucas turned to the man. “Who are you?” The man hesitated. Then answered: “My name is Ethan.” Ella looked confused. “How do you know all of this?” Ethan looked at Lucas. “Because I was there when your family made the decision.” Lucas’s expression changed. “You worked for them?” “Yes.” “And you stayed silent?” Ethan lowered his head. “I was wrong.” --- Lucas stepped closer. “You watched us lose five years.” “I know.” “You watched my son grow up without me.” “I know.” Ethan looked at Noah. “And that is why I came back.” --- Later that night, Lucas sat beside Noah’s bed. He watched his son sleep. A child who had no idea how many people had fought over his future. Lucas whispered: “I’m sorry I wasn’t there.” Noah moved slightly. “Daddy?” Lucas froze. “You awake?” Noah opened his eyes. “Are you sad?” Lucas smiled. “A little.” Noah held his hand. “Don’t be sad.” Lucas looked at their hands. Because his son was comforting him. The son he almost never got the chance to know. --- The next morning, Lucas made a decision. He walked into Knight Corporation. Everyone stood as he entered. But this time… He wasn’t there as the CEO. He was there as a father. “I’m calling a family meeting.” His assistant looked surprised. “About the company?” Lucas shook his head. “No.” A pause. “About my son.” Chapter 35 End.
