“A symbol of hope is still important,” Keriya told him. “There’s more to you than magic, anyway—take it from someone who knows.” Valerion’s growl faded and a rueful chuckle surfaced in its place. Then he slowed. His head lifted and a faraway look came into his eye. “What’s wrong?” she asked, reaching again for the absent Sethildras and cursing herself for doing so. “Nothing,” he murmured. “But you are right. I have more to offer than just my magic.” Keriya smiled. “That’s a nice thought, isn’t it?” “It’s certainly something. You don’t mind if I leave you here?” “Oh—uh, no. Not at all.” “Until tomorrow.” Valerion retreated and turned onto a different corridor.
