The soft hum of the machines filled the room. Morning light slipped gently through the blinds, cutting across the white walls and spilling over the bed where Aria lay. The Doctor had checked on her a while ago and said she was recovering well and a nurse had wiped her clean. Now, the faint warmth of the sun kissed her face, pulling her out of sleep. She blinked slowly, adjusting to the brightness. It took a while for her vision to sharpen but through the light haze, she saw him. Damian stood by the window with a hand in his pocket and the other holding his phone to his ear. His voice was low, measured, as if careful not to wake her.
