Mistake

960 Words
I mentally slapped my forehead, I was an i***t. I mean I literally told the dude not kiss me and here I was smacking lips with him. I rush down the hall my cheeks how with embarrassment, my mind flashes to the softness of his lips and the small gasp of surprise that escaped those lips when I kissed him. I groaned loudly before peaking behind me. He wasn't there thank goodness, but I would surely run into him sooner rather than later. Maybe he was talking to Adam with his mind about what a fool I had made of myself.      I spotted the dimple-less devil himself lounging on the sofa talking to the girls who were skinning the animals in the kitchen and Own grabbing the loose meat and throwing it into a pan. I smelled the meat and my stomach rumbled at the thought of the meat it had been a long day of using my gift with only toast in my stomach from this morning.  The pile of skins were being sorted through by Sarah while Nora thoroughly gutted and skinned the creatures. Sarah hung the skins out of the window hoping to dry the things out.      I myself was unsure of how to dry the skins for use but hopefully this would work even if it wasn't the best way. I sat down at the dinner table listening to them chatter among themselves. They talked of nothing of importance but it seemed to bring a normalcy into the house. I smiled as I listened throwing in occasional bouts of laughter. I glance slightly over at Adam eyeing him carefully, he doesn't seem to be acting strangely so maybe he didn't know that I attacked his brother with my lips.      I was making a big deal out of nothing, he kissed me first so I have no reason for shame. I mean we both knew it was a mistake. I duck my head down in thought and hear the door open. I peer up from my spot at the table Liam pushed his way into the room with a frown marring his face and hiding his cute dimples, No Cassie, Not Cute. I think to myself, he moves to the other side of the table watching me like a hunter stalking his pray. I drop my eyes from him and drop my gaze back to the table. That seems to nab Adam's attention as he eyes me curiously.      He glances over at Liam and I watch as a smirk replaces his confused expression. I flush deep red and turn to Owen, " So you were saying your mom owns a famous restaurant in California? What type of food does she sell there?" I ask politely giving Owen my full attention. He smiles at me before turning back to the pan and talking about his Mom's Italian restaurant. I smile and nod along and before long food is served.      We all eat quietly and happily before Owen breaks the silence "I think if we want to be a successful team we need to know about each other and what we can do. We all barely know each other and if we are going to spend the rest of our lives together we need to figure out how we can make this work."  He says eyeing each of us. I froze under his stare, what do I tell them. Very few were okay with what I could do. He stands up and speaks clearly "I was a chef in a couple of high class restaurants before I got sick, when I awoke I had a set of wings and I could fly. I am not a good hunter but I can gather and cook and clean." He says before sitting down. To my surprise stoic Sarah is the next to stand "I was a model, I got sick, and now I have animal like senses. Smell, sight, hearing. All similar to a wolf." She says sitting down.      Nora doesn't stand but starts talking "I was recently ill, a few months ago. No one noticed for a while but I am immune to damage on most of my body. I was in college to become a doctor but I never got to finish when they could find out what I could do." She says pushing her food around her plate with her fork. I glance at her carefully, she seemed very unhappy about having to quit her education, not that I blamed her. It was something she was probably passionate about and those bastards had taken it from her.       Adam stands encompassing the space with his body and exuding power with his body. "Me and my brother became sick at the same time. It enhanced the twin bond allowing us to talk to each other telepathically but only with each other. Other than that I was gifted with super strength. Me and my brother were working in a factory before we got sick." He says but doesn't sit down he stands over the table and stretching above us.      Everyone's focus turns to Liam and I and we eye each other warily. Mental ability culture was different than that of the physical group. Adam clears his throat. "It is different for Mentals, their culture is different. They never talk about it, especially in front of another mental. They rely on surprise and mind tricks." he says and I turn my gaze to him and give a grateful nod. Liam moves and stands next his brother "Although I would not be opposed to sharing the type of ability as long as miss Cassandra is willing to do the same." he says shooting me a mischievous glance.
