Alistar POV:

I kissed Dawn, I had finally done it. The kiss was amazing, it really was, but now I have no idea what comes next.

I wasn’t sure if I should start dating her now or calling her my girlfriend.

The end of the school year was approaching and then she would be leaving to go off to college in another state.

I don’t do long distance relationships, but would it be worth it for Dawn?

I decided to take a drive to the lake.

I texted my mom and brother when I got there to let them know where I was and to let them know, I'd be home a little later.

I got to the lake and got out of the truck and sat at the edge of the lake trying to think about what to do.

Ten minutes had probably passed as I sat enjoying the moonlight.

I decided to tell Dawn that I think it was worth giving us a shot.

“Well don’t you just look adorable.” A voice said from beside me.

I looked over to see a woman with white hair and red eyes a few feet away from me.

“Who are you?” I said cautiously

“The name is Veronica.” she said with a wicked smile.

“Can I help you Veronica?” I said as I stood up cautiously.

In the blink of an eye she was standing right in front of me.

I quickly backed away from her.

How did you get in front of me so fast.You were just standing over there!” I yelled.

“Aww what's the matter? You want me to tell you my secret?” She said

“Just leave me alone.” I said

I turned to try to run but all of a sudden she had me by the throat.

“Leaving so soon?I thought we were going to sit and enjoy the moonlight together for a little while.” Veronica said with mock enthusiasm.

She threw me against my truck and everything started to go dark.

The last thing I saw as my eyes closed was her walking towards me.

Sh*t, I'm in trouble.

Dawn POV:

I woke up with the sound of knocking at my door.

I looked at my alarm clock, it was a little after eight in the morning.

“Hey Kiddo,I need to talk to you.” my dad said in a somber voice

I got up and walked over to the door and opened it to see my dad standing with Mrs. June, Alistars mom.

She had tears streaming down her face.

“Dawn do you have any idea where Alistar might be?” my dad said

“No, what's wrong, what happened to Alistar!” I said

“Alistar is missing. He texted his brother and I last night saying that he was going to the lake. He was coming home, he said that he would just be a little late. He never came home. We found his truck by the lake this morning, it had a dent on the passenger side door that wasn’t there before. Along with what looked like blood on the ground. His phone was laying on the ground by his truck, it had been smashed to pieces.

We called the police, and they are out looking for him now. Please do know if he went somewhere?” Alistar’s mom said, crying.

I felt like someone had just punched me in the stomach. Alistar is missing, and they found blood with his phone smashed.

I thought about the woman from last night and the shadow I had seen.

Fear gripped me, could they have gotten Alistar?

I had no idea what I was going to do.

“No, I don’t know where he is. We were hanging out last night for karaoke and then he left.” I choked out.

“Okay, thank you Dawn. Please call me if you hear from him or see him.” She said with her voice shaking as she turned to leave.

My dad gave me a small head nod.

“I’m going out to help her look for him. I’ll be over by the lake with everyone else. Trevor went over to let Trudy know. I know you probably need a minute. I’m going to ride with Mrs. June and you can take my car and join us at the lake later.” He said with a sad smile.

He quickly disappeared down the stairs.

I fell down on the floor.

I couldn’t believe this was happening.

I heard a familiar honk from Trudy’s Jeep.

I heard my dad yell from the front door.

“ Kiddo Trudy is here. I’m going to send her up!” He yelled.

I heard the front door close.

Then I heard light footsteps coming up the stairs.

Trudy came into view and stood in front of me.

We were silent.

Trudy dropped down to the floor with me.

“Is this really happening? I can't believe he is really gone.” I whispered.

“ I think it is, Trevor came and told me. He was being serious and I’ve never seen him crying before. “ Trudy whispered back.

We sat in silence again for a minute.

“I know it’s not even close to important right now, but I wanted to say I’m sorry Dawn.” Trudy said, looking me in the eyes.

“What do you have to apologize to me for? I betrayed you last night when I kissed him. It’s me who should be saying I’m sorry not you. I saw the look on your face last night. I broke your heart, I was the worst friend. I don’t deserve your friendship.

I went back on our promise. I don’t even deserve to have you sitting here apologizing.” I said crying.

“Dawn there is something I have to tell you. I hope that after I tell you, you won’t hate me. I can’t believe how selfish I am to hope that you won’t hate me after what I've done.” Trudy said with a self loathing expression.
