Chapter 2 [New Beginnings]
The rest of the day flew by in a blur. I couldn't concentrate on my classes, my mind wandering back to Jake and the possibility of him being single again.
As I walked home from school, Emily chattered excitedly beside me, filling me in on all the latest gossip and rumors. I listened half-heartedly, my mind still preoccupied with thoughts of Jake.
When we reached my house, Emily hesitated, looking uncertain. "Hey, do you want to come over to my place and study for our math test?" she asked.
I shook my head, feeling a sudden urge to be alone. "I don't know, Emily. I'm kind of tired. Maybe some other time?"
Emily looked disappointed, but she nodded understandingly. "Okay, no worries. I'll catch you later, 'kay?"
I nodded, watching as Emily walked off down the street. As soon as she was out of sight, I let out a deep sigh and trudged inside.
My mom was in the kitchen, cooking dinner. She smiled as I walked in, but I could tell she was worried about me.
"Hey, sweetie, how was your first day back?" she asked, stirring the pot on the stove.
I shrugged, feeling a little overwhelmed. "It was okay, I guess. Just a lot to take in."
My mom nodded sympathetically. "I know it can be tough getting back into the swing of things. But you'll settle in soon, I'm sure."
I nodded, feeling a small sense of comfort. My mom always knew how to make me feel better.
As we sat down to eat dinner, my mind began to wander again. I couldn't help but think about Jake, and the possibility of us being together.
But as I looked over at my mom, I felt a pang of guilt. I knew she was worried about me, and I didn't want to add to her stress.
So I pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on my dinner and the conversation with my mom.
As the evening drew to a close, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. Maybe this year wouldn't be so bad after all.
But little did I know, things were about to get a whole lot more complicated.
The next morning, I woke up feeling a sense of determination. I was going to make this year count, no matter what.
As I got dressed and ready for school, my mind wandered back to Jake. I couldn't help but wonder what he was like, outside of school. Did he have any hobbies? What kind of music did he like?
I shook my head, feeling a little silly. I had been crushing on Jake for years, and yet I knew so little about him.
As I walked to school, Emily caught up with me, chattering excitedly about her weekend plans. I listened half-heartedly, my mind still preoccupied with thoughts of Jake.
When we arrived at school, I spotted Jake standing by his locker, chatting with his friends. My heart skipped a beat as our eyes met, and I felt a rush of adrenaline coursing through my veins.
I quickly looked away, trying to play it cool. But I couldn't help sneaking glances at Jake throughout the day.
At lunchtime, Emily and I sat down at our usual table, surrounded by our friends. Jake was sitting a few tables away, laughing and joking with his friends.
I tried to focus on the conversation, but my eyes kept drifting back to Jake. Emily noticed, and nudged me playfully with her elbow.
"Earth to [Your Name]!" she whispered, grinning mischievously. "Focus, girl!"
I blushed, feeling a mix of embarrassment and frustration. Why couldn't I just focus on the conversation, instead of getting lost in thoughts of Jake?
As the day drew to a close, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. I had made it through the first two days of school without too much drama.
But as I walked home from school, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Like there was a storm brewing on the horizon, just waiting to erupt.
Little did I know, that storm was closer than I thought.
As I walked up the path to my front door, I noticed a piece of paper taped to the door. I ripped it off, expecting it to be a flyer or a bill.
But instead, it was a note. Scrawled in messy handwriting, it read:
"Meet me at the park at 5pm. -J"
My heart skipped a beat as I read the note. J? As in Jake?
I felt a rush of excitement mixed with nerves. What did Jake want to meet me for? And why had he asked me to meet him in secret?
I looked around nervously, wondering if anyone had seen me reading the note. But the street was empty, and I was alone.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. I had to play it cool, no matter what.
I crumpled up the note and shoved it into my pocket, trying to act nonchalant. But inside, I was freaking out.
What was I getting myself into?
