Natalie had a dream. In it, Landon held her tight, his expression unreadable. "Nat, you once said that if I died, you wouldn't live on without me. What about now?" She laughed coldly. "Now? I'd set off fireworks over Crestport Bay for three days and three nights—a proper send-off." Landon glanced at his watch, then let out a low laugh, his voice warm with the same old tenderness. "Alright. I'll be waiting." The laughter from the dream hadn't faded before reality pierced through like a needle. She heard Landon's voice, gentle and coaxing. "Silly girl, you just wanted a gift. Why'd you have to hurt yourself like that?" Then came Fiona's tearful whimpering, broken and pitiful. "Don't cry." Landon's voice grew softer still. "Didn't I already let the elephant out to make you feel better?
