The silver moon glimmered. The faint wind made the tall tree’s leaves shimmer. The ambient environment surrounded the tired humans.
-Nikari, - Said Nagami while looking back with pity in his eyes – We should set a campfire somewhere.
-Why, brother? – Nikari was somewhat surprised by the sudden decision.
The younger sibling looked behind and saw how exhausted people were from traveling all day. He nodded his head in acceptance.
-Everyone, - Nagami stopped their tracks – We are going to set a small resting place for all of us to pass the night. Follow me please, I know this forest like the back of my palm.
People were satisfied with the decision. They were too nervous and timid to ask for a break. With the chief taking the lead, they headed deep into the forest.
-There might be monsters lurking around, be careful everyone. – Nikari warned, making people even more frightened.
-Don’t scare them, brother. I’m here, no monster will approach us.
After a brief 20-minute walk, they arrived at a small, but spacious green field. They sat down on the soft green grass and looked up, gazing at the beautiful night sky. It was filled with bright yellow stars. The soothing nature calmed everyone down.
-You can all go to sleep, I will be on guard for monsters or enemies. We mustn’t waste any time. – Confidently said Nagami.
People felt safe being around him. He was strong, confident, and a great leader. Nikari was proud to be his family. Under the moonlight, he slowly approached his brother to not make any noise and disturb others.
-Brother, why didn’t you take his Mythic? – He was curious – You don’t own one yourself, despite being the village chief. You always give them away.
Nagami smiled and turned around.
-There are some things you aren’t ready to know yet, brother.
-What? – Nikari scratched his head in confusion.
-Mythics aren’t normal weapons. You would’ve known this if you paid attention and listened to your masters during training.
-Ha? Noo, it’s not like that at all… - He started nervously whistling.
Nagami quietly chuckled at his younger siblings’ reaction.
-Listen, brother. Mythics are mighty weapons created and imbued with powerful magic. They are carefully made by high-ranking dwarfs. The moment someone touches a Mythic, their soul becomes connected to the weapon, making everyone else unable to use it. Sit down, I will thoroughly explain it to you.
Nikari sat down with crossed legs and listened with admiration.
-Every living creature in this world has Chi flowing in them. It’s the source of magic. But we have limiters placed on our bodies, for Chi to not overwork us. These are known as Gates. There are spells to temporarily open these Gates, greatly increasing the flowing of Chi in our bodies and further increasing our powers. These are: “Alter” to open the first gate, “Multir” to open the second gate, and “Ultir” to open the third gate. Sadly, I don’t know spells to open the fourth Gate and beyond that. But to learn these spells, you will need a lot of dedication, as it takes high levels of concentration and skill for them to work. You will also need to strengthen your body and skills, a normal human can’t just open the third gate and have superpowers. – Nagami disappointedly sighed – Sadly, I can only reach the second Gate, because of my lack of strength.
-Only second!? – Nikari was surprised – He’s so powerful, and can only open two!?
Nagami, with a kind face, looked at his younger brother.
-I’m sure you will surpass me in power, brother. You’re already a lot stronger than me when I was at your age. – He tried to motivate him.
-I hope so… - Nikari was still in disbelief of his strength after witnessing it firsthand during the fight with Woolred – Brother, I noticed you have been worrying about something right after we left the beastmen’s base, did something happen?
Nagami’s face suddenly changed. He looked a lot more serious. This fact disturbed Nikari because he has never seen him like this.
-So you have noticed, heh, I shouldn’t ever underestimate you.
-What do you mean, Nagami? – He swiftly stood up.
-I have always eliminated every witness during my missions, but because one escaped right under our noses, I have been, concerned. – He covered his face with his hand and slightly gripped it – Because I slipped, our safety is endangered.
Nikari knew he was to blame for this.
-Because of my selfishness… - He was mad at himself.
-Uhm, mister.
-Huh? – Nikari was startled, as something grabbed his leg.
-I can’t sleep, can you, lay, next to, me? – His legs were quivering from fear.
It was the boy whose mother died during the battle. Bloodstains were still splattered on his face. Nikari brushed his head and twinkled.
-Sure. Don’t be shy to ask.
A faint smile was placed on the traumatized young boy’s face.
-Good night, brother. – Said Nagami while waving his hand.
Nikari nodded his head, smiled, and walked away. But guilt was crushing his head.
-I couldn’t save his mother, and let an enemy escape, I’m a failure. – He tightly gripped his hand and made a determined face – I must get stronger, like Nagami and Basen!
-Is everything okay mister? – The boy was confused by the way Nikari was acting.
-Oh, sorry. – He giggled – Let’s go to sleep.
The silver moon shone brightly, lighting up the gloomy forest.
-I hope everything will turn out fine. – Thought Nagami while admiring the night sky, filled with bright stars.
