Chapter 5

1080 Words
-Mama, papa! – A young boy ran towards his parents. He was lively and cheerful, enjoying his youth. -Come, run to me! – The father kneeled and widely spread his arms. The kid jumped and tightly hugged his parent. The man swiftly stood up and started spinning his child in the air. -Hey! – Mother seemed annoyed by his husband’s behavior – We need to hurry, you know! -Cut me some slack, - With a squeaky voice, he then said – I’m spending quality time with my cutesy, - The boy looked at him with angry eyes – *Ahem* I mean my brave and strong man! The kid started laughing, it made his guardians smile with joy. Dad put his kid down and walked towards the door, where his wife was waiting impatiently. -Nagami, wait for me patiently, and look after your brother! I will see you soon, I promise! Nagami closed his eyes, smiled, and waved his hand, but when he opened them, their faces were dark. Everything around went pitch black. He couldn’t see them. -Mama, papa? – He was terrified – Mama, papa! The man jumped and took a deep breath. He was panicking, but quickly calmed down. He placed his hand on his head and looked at the beautiful sky. -Another nightmare. – Nagami sighed – I miss you, mother, father. I always wonder where you went. That was the final time Nagami saw a glimpse of their parents. They never came back. -You broke your promise, father. The town was distressed in the coming months. Without their chief and protector, who would’ve ruled the only human-populated village that was left? The master’s had a meeting soon after. Subsequently, they came up with a terrible solution. -Nagami, - One of them kneeled in front of the anxious child – you will take your father’s role, and become the chief of Shujin. The young boy went under grueling training. He was required to learn leadership and was forced to become a ruler, even though he was just a kid. His liveliness faded away as he matured. He was tasked to govern the village. But both Nikari and Nagami weren’t informed as to why their parents disappeared. Only the masters knew the truth: They were murdered during a rescue mission. The sun was already setting, engulfing the sky in pink. It was dawn. Nikari continued his path towards Drak’s house. Pain in his injuries dwindled, but he was still in need of healing. -Maybe I should’ve gone home first – The boy lifted his torn clothes with the tips of his fingers and looked down at them with disgust – so I changed into some proper clothes. Oh well, - He shrugged his shoulders – too late now. He arrived at an astonishingly gorgeous home. It was pure white, partially made out of quartz. Nikari approached the dark brown door and gently knocked on it. -Drak, it’s me, Nikari. Are you home? -I’m coming! – He heard a faint voice, that was slowly getting louder. The door suddenly opened. A short guy wearing expensive attire with blonde hair and bright blue eyes was breathing deeply behind the door. He was surprised to see him in ragged clothes. -NIKARI! – He latched onto him with his legs and arms and started rubbing his head against his chest. -GET OFF ME! – The boy pushed his head away, but he couldn’t get him off as he hung tightly. -Where were youu!? I was worried so much! -OW OW OW OW! – His wounds started opening up and it hurt – FIRST JACK, NOW YOU! GET OFF OF ME! After a short wrestling session, Drak jumped off. -Come in, let’s talk. – His demeanor completely changed. The interior of the building was as impressive as the outside view. It was full of expensive gems, books, and many other items. They sat down in the living room on a fancy red couch. -I will get us some herb tea. – Said Drak as he walked off with a bright smile on his face. -I can’t understand him at all. – Nikari thought. He cleared his mind and leaned back on the couch. After a short while, Drak returned with a tray of pricy cups and a teapot. He laid them down on the table and sat down on the opposite side of the boy. -Now, tell me where you really went Nikari. – Drak asked as he carefully poured the liquid into the cups – I searched for you all around Shujin – He took a small sip, with his mood completely changing – and I couldn’t find you anywhere! I was so worried you know! – He giggled – I’m happy you’re alive. -He thought I was dead? – Nikari’s face went blank – Drak, - The injured boy delicately and steadily lifted the teacup, as it was valuable and he didn’t want to damage it – I came here because I wanted for you to heal my wounds. -I figured that out. – Drak said with a serious face while taking another sip. -Eh? – Nikari was yet again confused – I was, on a rescue mission. -I already knew that too. -Then why did you bother asking where I was in the first place!? –he irritatedly thought. -I’ll heal you immediately right after I finish my tea. – Drak took a bigger sip as the drink got colder. The boy was slightly annoyed about how the short guy was acting, but there was nothing he could do. A minute of silence has passed. Drak leisurely finished his tea, stood up, stretched, and nimbly placed himself behind Nikari. He lifted the kid’s clothes and watchfully put his hand on his back. -Heal. – Drak whispered to himself. His hands suddenly started glowing in bright green. A peaceful aura surrounded them. The cuts started closing and bruised were fading. -How did you know I was on a rescue mission? – Curiously and quietly asked Nikari. -Basen informed me. Right after, he told Nagami. – Drak chuckled while lifting his head – You should’ve seen your brother’s face. He rushed out of the village immediately. – He looked down at his injuries – Seems like he made it in time. A warm smile appeared on the boy’s face. He was happy that his older brother cares for him so much. He admires Nagami and wants to protect him from danger too.
