Chapter 2
~Elena~
“Where am I?” I wondered, my eyes darting back and forth. “Is this the afterlife?”
“It's morning fellas,” a voice barked, hitting the metal cage aggressively. “Wake up bitches,” he growled.
I rubbed my eyes weakly as I stood up, dusting my gown slowly. My clothes were soaked in mud.
I tried to brush my hair forward but the sight of my own hand made my heart skip a beat.
It was fairer, smoother and completely different.
“What's going on?” I wondered, my breathing intense as my heart pounded in my chest.
“Where am I? How did I survive?”
These thoughts filled my mind as I scanned through the cobwebs infested cage I was in with chains on my legs and hands.
"Get out! All of you, now!" A guard roared, striking his whip randomly as everyone scrambled out.
“Hey, b***h, what are you standing there for?" He asked, jolting me out of my thoughts. “Get out now!” He barked, his eyes blazing with anger.
But as I raised my face to look at him, my jaw dropped.
“Y-you?” I stuttered, my voice barely audible as my lips trembled. His face seemed familiar, like I had seen him before.
“Get the hell out, you stink,” he retorted, folding his whip as he stared at me with rage in his eyes.
I remained fixed on the same spot, unfazed as I watched him closely trying to recall where I had seen him before.
“Are you dumb?” He roared, walking closer to me with his whip dangling in his hand. He raised his whip immediately, about to strike me.
“Stop right there,” I heard a voice say behind me. “Don't touch her.”
The guard's hand stopped mid air, his face twisted in a frown. “Master,” he bowed, eying me maliciously.
“What do you think you are doing?” My savior asked, his voice harsh and cold. “Don't hit a lady that way,” he thundered.
My eyes slowly fluttered open as I looked back, in a bid to grasp the face of my savior.
“Huh!” I exclaimed, my mouth slightly parted in shock. “How is this possible?” I wondered.
Right before my eyes, was the most attractive being I had ever seen.
His eyes were dark green with thick eyebrows. His hair was packed in a ponytail, adding to his majestic outlook.
He approached me slowly, his eyes fixed on me all through. “What is your name?” He asked, his face without any emotion.
“E-Elena,” I stuttered, my gaze drifted as I avoided his prying gaze.
“You are human,” he muttered, his voice sensing displeasure. “Y-yes,” I replied, my gaze fixed on the ground.
He stared at me for a while before shifting his gaze back to the guard. “Release her and take her inside,” he said, his voice firm and urgent.
“Huh! I…….”
“I said release her,” he growled, his green eyes suddenly turned red as he grabbed the guard aggressively.
“Y-yes my lord,” the guard stammered, gasping for breath as he unlocked the chain on my legs immediately.
“Come with me,” He muttered, eyeing me a little but I cared less, he can't hurt me anyways.
“After you,” I replied, rolling my eyes.
For the first time since I could remember, I saw a hint of fear in the guard's eyes and it only sparked a thought in me.
“Who was the mysterious man?”
At that moment, my mind was made up, I was going to do anything to be on the stronger side, no matter what it would take.
________
“Here,” a maid said, handing me a piece of cloth as she eyed me. “The bathroom is over there,” she pointed, her face twisted in disgust.
“T-thank you,” I stuttered, biting my lower lip nervously before heading to the bathroom.
After about half an hour, I was done bathing. Surprisingly, the lanky maid from earlier was still waiting outside.
“Uhmm, please where can I trash this?” I asked, referring to the dirty gown I wore earlier.
“You can keep it in the king's room,” she retorted, her voice laced with sarcasm.
“I'm sorry,” I muttered, my eyes drooped.
“Pftt,” she scoffed before leaning closer. “I know what you are but just so you know, Ethan can never fall for a human,” she added, eying me one more time before she walked out.
“Oh! His name is Ethan,” I muttered, smiling sheepishly before entering the room assigned to me.
“Wow!” I exclaimed, my eyes dancing in excitement as I sniffed the air in the room. It had an earthy smell, like damp sand and a tree bark.
The walls were a hue of pink and white with a large mirror standing beside it. It had a small bed in the middle with a shelf at the edge.
I moved closer a little, closing the door slowly behind me.
Without thinking twice, I walked towards the mirror, my heart beat increased with each step I took.
“Relax Elena, just a quick glance,” I muttered before fixing my gaze on the mirror.
“Huh! No way,” I whispered, my breathing seized in my throat. The person staring back at me was…different.
“This can't be real, right?” I wondered, my hand trailing down my face slowly. My eyes were still brown but my face was completely different.
I was fairer, longer hair with a jawline that stood out. Unlike the maidens I had seen earlier, I was more beautiful, my skin glowed in the sunlight.
I took a step closer, my heart racing with confusion.“How could this be? What happened?” I wondered, my mind racing in shock.
Then it came rushing back, all my memories, the attack on my village, my parents death, the one eyed guard and my death.
“Mom,” I whimpered, tears welled up at the sides and corners of my eyes. “Dad,” I cried, holding back the tears that threatened to fall.
Realization suddenly hit me, the guard from the incident earlier, I had seen him before, he was the one eyed guard, the guard who killed me.
“Wait a minute,” I stumbled backwards, deep in thought. 'Was I reborn?’ I wondered.
'Does it mean I came back as a slave in the lycans territory?’
Suddenly, a knock came on the door, jolting me out of my thoughts. “Come in,” I muttered, adjusting my dress.
The door made a slight creak as the maid from earlier entered, her face twisted in her usual look of disgust.
“The chief maid wants to see you,” she said, her voice harsh and cold.
“Alright, I will be there in a minute,” I replied with a small smile on my face.
“Follow me now,” she barked, eying me one more time before going out. “Don't keep her waiting,” she added as I followed behind sheepishly.
Once we got to the kitchen, filled with the smell of eggs and bacon, I couldn't help but grope at how neatly coordinated it was. They were just like a small herd of sheeps.
The chief maiden stood before me, her eyes roaming all over my body with a frown on her face.
“What's your name?” She asked. “E-elena ma,” I replied, fiddling with my fingers nervously.
She stared at me for a while before handing me a glass cup. “Take this to the guard in front,” she ordered, her voice firm and urgent.
“Ok ma,” I replied, bowing slightl
y as I collected the glass from her. I had barely taken a few steps forward when I suddenly bumped into someone, spilling the whole content on her dress.
“Oops! I’m dead,” I muttered, my eyes widened in shock.
