The Shadow’s Reach

757 Words

Victor was still. His powerful body was a broken wreck in the sanctuary, fading into the stone floor. The place buzzed with leftover magic. Scarlett gasped, hand out, her inner storm calming down a little. Even though the danger was gone for now, she felt uneasy. The wolves were gone, and their leader was defeated—for now. But she felt the prophecy's weight on her again. The darkness wasn’t gone; it was waiting for her to falter. Waiting for her to lose control. “Scarlett.” Caden’s voice pulled her back. He stood beside her, changing back from his wolf form. His eyes showed he was proud, but still worried. “We did it. We stopped him.” Scarlett looked at Victor, then at Caden. She felt their bond, which grounded her. He was right—they had stopped Victor, and the wolf pack was in chaos.
