Ryker's POV
She whispered, "I love you, Ryker," and then gave me a soft kiss to show how much she cared.
The words that came out of Claire's lips shocked me, and I quickly turned away from her. It made me feel strange like my heart had stopped beating in a regular pattern for a short time. But her sudden laughter was like I was being drenched with cold water.
"Jeez, Ryker, what kind of reaction is that?" she asked.
I immediately left on top of her. I got out of bed and went to the kitchen to get the towel from the high stool.
"I'm not joking around with you now, Claire," I said seriously. "You have to know that everything I do is to help us start over."
"I'm sorry..."
"Don't say those words to me if you don't mean it." I went into the bathroom quickly and locked the door.
