*A vampire’s eyes turn red when they thirst for blood.*
As that thought flashed through Jiang Banxu’s mind, he felt something cold and wet on his arm. The strange sensation made him tremble all over.
Ying Tiao’s strength was overwhelming, leaving Jiang completely powerless.
As the blood was licked clean from the wound, Jiang watched in disbelief as the gash healed before his eyes. He couldn’t decide whether he was more shocked or terrified.
The pain hadn’t fully subsided when Ying grabbed his arm and brought it to his lips. With a flash of sharp fangs, he pierced the skin of Jiang’s wrist, and blood began to flow freely.
It all happened so fast that Jiang had no time to react.
The sharp pain from his skin being torn made him flinch uncontrollably, and his breathing quickened as he let out a stifled gasp.
Despite his fear, the initial pain quickly gave way to a strange, unsettling pleasure.
The human’s eyes gradually grew unfocused.
In what felt like only a few seconds, Jiang’s body had gone completely limp. His sweat-soaked body slumped against the cabinet behind him, completely enveloped by the tall vampire.
Ying’s lips were stained with droplets of Jiang’s blood. He leaned closer, his cold, dark aura pressing in around Jiang.
When the vampire’s icy fangs brushed against the skin of his neck, Jiang’s sense of danger reached its peak.
Overwhelmed by the fear of death, Jiang let out a soft, trembling whimper.
That sound—fragile and filled with fear—made Ying’s entire body stiffen.
Only then did the vampire’s reason begin to return.
He had spent every day with Jiang Banxu, constantly able to smell the sweet scent of his blood. This temptation, for Ying, had always been something he could resist with ease. He had even come to think of it as a way to soothe himself when he couldn’t drink blood.
But Jiang’s sudden injury and the blood that followed had thrown his plans off course.
When the sweet blood had been right in front of him, Ying’s self-control had shattered, and things had spiraled out of his control.
Ying’s spine went rigid, and his chest heaved as he retracted his sharp fangs.
He forced himself to stop drinking, instead licking the remaining blood from Jiang’s wrist, savoring the taste with clear reluctance.
During this, Jiang—already bitten—didn’t resist at all. He even offered his wrist to the vampire willingly.
When Ying’s eyes finally returned to their normal black, it signaled that his thirst for blood had been subdued.
But despite that, Ying’s entire body was tense, and a deep frown appeared on his face.
He could feel his strength and his ability to resist sunlight rapidly increasing, something that drinking artificial blood could never achieve.
At the same time, however, Ying sensed that his body was undergoing changes that he couldn’t control.
A heat coursed through him, intense and unfamiliar, far more unbearable than the sun. It felt as if a deeper desire had been awakened.
Ying’s eyes, which had just returned to normal, suddenly turned red again. As Jiang’s warm, soft body pressed against his, the vampire’s gaze sharpened with predatory intent.
He was overcome with the urge to hold Jiang.
After being bitten by a vampire, humans would be briefly influenced by the vampire’s saliva, becoming enthralled and compliant.
Jiang’s body no longer obeyed his own will. All he wanted was to be close to the man in front of him and to follow the instinctive pull within him.
His slender arms wrapped around Ying’s neck, and he rested his head on the vampire’s shoulder, utterly defenseless.
Like an offering, Jiang bared his vulnerable neck to the vampire.
“Jiang Banxu...” Ying’s pale hand gently stroked the top of the young man’s head. His voice was rough, hoarse, as desire completely overtook his rational mind. He couldn’t resist for even half a second.
Cupping Jiang’s face, Ying kissed him.
...
Late into the night, the room was pitch-black.
Ying’s bedroom was starkly different from Jiang’s cozy one.
Because it was the smaller, secondary bedroom, it was slightly smaller than Jiang’s, and the lack of furnishings made it feel especially barren.
The room contained only a large bed with dark sheets and a few racks for clothes—nothing more.
And now, lying on that bed was a young man, fast asleep.
Vampires had exceptional night vision.
Sitting at the edge of the bed, Ying could clearly see the redness of Jiang’s swollen eyelids, the tear tracks on his cheeks, and the gentle rise and fall of his body as he breathed.
Everything had spiraled out of control.
Ying had been raised as an heir to lead his clan, undergoing training far more rigorous than any other vampire. So from the moment he’d decided to seek out Jiang Banxu, Ying had never worried about losing control around him.
He had carefully planned how to proceed, step by step.
In fact, he hadn’t lost control when it came to drinking blood. As soon as he realized something was wrong, the vampire had stopped himself.
But he hadn’t expected to lose control in another way.
Sleeping with a human had been beyond anything the vampire had ever considered.
At the same time, Wu Xiangting, the CEO of Wu Corporation, was woken up by an urgent message in the middle of the night. He quickly got dressed and drove out to a secluded villa on the outskirts of the city.
The villa had been passed down through generations of the Wu family, a place that held all the records and knowledge related to vampires. It also served as a point of contact between the family and any vampires they were allied with.
As soon as Wu Xiangting stepped inside, he was met with the irritated voice of a vampire: “What are the negative effects of drinking a reviver’s blood again?”
The hall was dark, illuminated only by moonlight.
One look at the vampire in front of him, and Wu could immediately tell something was different. Combined with the question, it was clear that Ying had drunk reviver blood.
Reviver blood was said to make vampires more powerful, though that wasn’t something Wu could discern from outward appearances. But he could definitely feel that Ying’s aura had changed. The coldness had diminished, yet the sense of pressure had intensified.
Though he knew the vampire wouldn’t harm him, Wu couldn’t help but feel a primal fear.
Steadying himself, Wu quickly recalled the information he had memorized and answered, “According to records, 90% of the side effects involve an increased bloodlust. In some cases, it’s even led to the reviver’s life being threatened.”
He paused for a moment, thinking. “There are also cases of increased control or destructive impulses. In those situations, vampires might confine their reviver, or exhibit violent tendencies toward others, until another vampire intervenes or the vampire regains their senses. Each of these makes up the remaining 10%.”
When Wu Xiangting had first come across these details, they had chilled him to the core. The idea had left him cold with fear.
But as he learned more, he realized how rare such events were.
Throughout vampire history, the chances of a vampire being revived after death were extremely low. There were fewer than 20 documented cases, with only five being of noble lineage, while the rest were low-level vampires.
By now, the vampire population was almost extinct, and those lower-level vampires had long since died off due to their own reckless actions.
All of the horrifying cases he’d read about had involved those low-level vampires. They had refused to accept proper training, giving in to their bloodlust and wreaking havoc on humans and animals alike. It was because of vampires like them that humanity had once united to hunt vampires into near extinction.
Meanwhile, the four remaining noble vampires were strictly bound by laws and had reportedly lived in harmony with their revivers. It was said that some still lived among humans to this day, hiding in plain sight.
For this reason, Wu Xiangting, although unsure of why Ying was asking these questions, had faith that nothing too terrible would happen.
After listening to Wu’s explanation, Ying still frowned.
This indicated that the side effects he was experiencing didn’t match any of the ones Wu had described.
Curiosity gnawed at Wu, but the vampire’s dark expression made him hesitate to ask any further.
For a long while, the air was silent as Wu waited patiently.
Finally, Ying broke the silence. “What causes these side effects?”
This question was trickier to answer, but after thinking for a moment, Wu replied, “There isn’t any solid research on that. My guess is that the fresh blood of the reviver enhances the vampire’s abilities in every way, but it also stimulates something else.”
Ying raised an eyebrow.
Wu clarified, “For example, a vampire who is already struggling to suppress their bloodlust might lose control after drinking reviver blood and drain the human without reason or restraint.”
“What I mean is that reviver blood might amplify a vampire’s latent desires.”
At this, Wu noticed a sudden shift in the vampire’s expression.
He had struck a nerve.
Wu’s curiosity deepened. “Uh… For the sake of completeness in my research, would you mind telling me what desire of yours was amplified?”
Ying: “…”
