The hallway was silent. No one moved. No one breathed. Every employee, every guard, every person present could feel it. Kael Draven was furious. Not annoyed. Not angry. Furious. And that was far more dangerous. The intruder straightened slowly, their face still hidden beneath a black mask. For a brief moment, neither man spoke. Then the intruder laughed. A low, distorted sound. “So the great Kael Draven really bonded with him.” Kael’s silver eyes narrowed. “Remove your mask.” “No.” The answer came instantly. Kael took a single step forward. The floor beneath his feet cracked. Several guards immediately backed away. Even Elias felt his pulse quicken. The Alpha’s scent filled the corridor like a storm preparing to break. The intruder tilted their head. “You’ve become predictable.” “And you’ve become careless.” Before the stranger could respond— Kael moved. Elias barely saw it happen. One second the Alpha was standing still. The next— A deafening crash exploded through the hallway. The intruder flew backward. Straight through a marble pillar. Stone shattered everywhere. Employees screamed and scattered. Dust filled the air. For several seconds, the corridor disappeared beneath clouds of debris. Then the intruder emerged. Still standing. Still alive. Elias’s eyes widened. Whoever this person was, they weren’t ordinary. Not even close. The attacker wiped blood from the corner of their mouth. Then laughed again. “Impressive.” Kael didn’t answer. The billionaire Alpha simply continued walking forward. Slowly. Like a predator approaching wounded prey. The intruder finally stopped smiling. Good. Because Elias wasn’t smiling either. His instincts were screaming. This fight wasn’t normal. These weren’t normal people. The pressure in the air alone felt suffocating. Suddenly, the stranger pulled something from inside their jacket. A small silver device. The moment Elias saw it, his chest exploded with pain. “Ah!” He dropped to one knee. The bond reacted instantly. Kael spun around. “Elias!” The device began glowing. A strange symbol appeared on its surface. Ancient. Unfamiliar. Wrong. Elias’s vision blurred. His heartbeat became erratic. The bond twisted painfully inside him. The intruder smiled beneath their mask. “There it is.” Kael’s expression darkened. “What did you do?” “Nothing.” The stranger’s voice dripped with amusement. “I’m simply confirming a theory.” Another wave of pain slammed into Elias. He gasped. Something inside him was responding to that device. Something hidden. Something buried. The stranger’s smile widened. “So it’s true.” Kael stepped in front of Elias immediately. Protective. Possessive. Dangerous. The Alpha’s eyes turned icy. “What is true?” The intruder looked directly at Elias. “He’s one of them.” The words sent a chill through the hallway. Kael’s jaw tightened. “Explain.” “No.” The stranger suddenly pressed a button on the device. Alarms erupted throughout the mansion. Emergency lights flashed. Security systems malfunctioned. Then every window in the corridor shattered simultaneously. Glass exploded everywhere. Employees screamed. The distraction lasted less than a second. But it was enough. When the dust settled— The intruder was gone. Completely gone. Silence returned. Heavy. Uncomfortable. Kael stood motionless. Then slowly turned toward Elias. The pain was fading now. But confusion remained. “What did they mean?” Elias asked quietly. Kael didn’t answer immediately. That alone worried him. Because Kael always seemed to have answers. Finally, the Alpha spoke. “I don’t know.” It was the first honest uncertainty Elias had seen from him. And it terrified him. ⸻ An hour later, the mansion was locked down. Security teams searched every inch of the estate. No one found the intruder. Not a trace. It was as though they had vanished into thin air. Elias sat inside Kael’s private office while doctors examined him. The room itself was massive. Dark wood. Floor-to-ceiling windows. Expensive artwork. A city view worth millions. Everything about it screamed power. But Elias barely noticed. His thoughts remained fixed on one thing. “He’s one of them.” One of who? The doctor finished examining him. “Physically, he’s fine.” Kael folded his arms. “Then explain the reaction.” “I can’t.” The doctor looked uncomfortable. “I’ve never seen anything like it.” Wonderful. Another mystery. Exactly what Elias needed. The doctor eventually left. Then it was just him and Kael. Alone. Again. For several moments, silence stretched between them. Finally, Elias spoke. “What if they’re right?” Kael looked up. “What?” “What if there’s something different about me?” Kael studied him quietly. The intensity of that gaze made Elias nervous. Then the Alpha said something unexpected. “There is.” Elias blinked. “What?” Kael leaned back slightly. “You’re stubborn.” “…” “Annoyingly stubborn.” “…” “And you talk too much.” Elias stared. Then grabbed the nearest cushion and threw it at him. Kael caught it effortlessly. For the first time since the attack— A faint smile appeared on the Alpha’s face. Small. Rare. Dangerously attractive. Elias immediately looked away. No. Absolutely not. He refused to acknowledge that thought. The bond pulsed softly. Almost teasing. “Stop that,” Elias muttered. Kael raised an eyebrow. “Stop what?” “Not you.” “That’s concerning.” Elias groaned. This bond was going to ruin his life. ⸻ Much later that night, after Kael insisted he remain under observation, Elias finally returned to his suite. Exhaustion weighed heavily on him. He wanted sleep. Nothing more. But as he prepared for bed, he noticed something beneath the door. A folded piece of paper. His heart skipped. Slowly, he picked it up. Then unfolded it. The message contained only one sentence. Five simple words. Yet they made his blood run cold. They found the heir. And beneath the words— The same strange symbol from the intruder’s device. Elias stared at it. Fear settled heavily in his chest. Because somehow… He knew that message was meant for him. And deep down… He was beginning to suspect that his life before meeting Kael had been built on lies. To be continued
