Gavin’s POV
“Hey, Alex! Did you see how my sister was looking at you earlier?” That stupid moron George Worthing was saying at the incredibly lame ‘private party’ in his own suite after the pack run.
George was still underage. So this ‘party’ as he was calling it was the only thing he could think of to celebrate our new roles. He only provided cheap whiskey to drink, along with potato chips and dip. There was no entertainment, either, just lame conversation. It was stupid really, since he couldn’t even take on his new role as Delta and be a true royal officer until after his own first shift in September. If he doesn’t shut the f**k up soon, though, he wasn’t going to live that long!
“I saw she was there,” Alex replies with a shrug, not sounding particularly interested one way or another. I guess George decided to take that as a good sign for some reason since he kept talking.
“Patty told me recently that she’s desperately in love with you,” the i***t claims next. “If you wanted to sleep with her, I personally wouldn’t object as long as you don’t break her heart. She’s still a virgin, too. She told me just the other day that she is saving herself just for you!”
“I’ll try to keep that in mind,” Alex says, taking another small sip of the awful whiskey.
“Enjoy the whiskey, my king!” The i***t winks at him before casually taking another drink of his own whiskey as if he hadn’t just offered up his own virginal twin sister as a prospective prostitute to Alex.
I want to rip this f*****g idiots head clean off of his shoulders for his words about my future mate. Not that I would ever be stupid enough to inform him of the fact that his sister and I are fated mates! It could only end badly if her family found out in advance since I know their parents don’t really approve of me.
Stay calm, Gavin, Alex suggests to me by mind link. Which thankfully was another thing that i***t George was too young to do. It probably wouldn’t be a good look to kill your mate’s twin brother. Once Patricia shifts in September and scents you out, she’ll forget all about me. You’ll see!
Why did you pick this stupid little turd to be your Delta in the first place? I reply back, disgusted. He’s a f*****g moron!
Clearly, Alex replies with an amused tone to his mind link. I saw him add a little something extra to my drink earlier, so I switched his for mine when he wasn’t looking!
I can’t help laughing out loud, and Alex joins me.
“Was so funny?” George asks, his words slurring a bit, and his eyes begin to take on a glazed look. “Waz going on?”
“I think you need to head to bed,” Alex tells him gently. “Tomorrow I expect you to start your official officer training with former Delta Malcom.”
“I think what he needs is his girlfriend, Lexi,” I suggest, noting that the moron has a major tent pole situation going on underneath the sweatpants he was wearing.
“Huh?” George looks down at his crotch in confusion.
“In either case, Gavin and I really need to leave now,” Alex says, standing up. Then he surprises me with his next words. “But before we go I have a warning for you. Don’t ever try to drug me again if you value your position as my Delta. You weren’t my first choice, and you’ll be very easy to replace if you ever try anything treasonous like this again! Nor will I be as lenient. Next time you’ll suffer a punishment far worse than being drugged by your own hand.”
The look on George’s face was one of shock and confusion, quickly followed by that of shame.
“I’m really sorry,” he says, looking at Alex in earnest. “It was my dad’s idea. I promise it won’t happen again.”
“Make sure that it doesn’t,” Alex says with a nod, then indicating to me that I should follow him out.
“You really shouldn’t have…,” I begin to say once the door is shut, but then I smell something that doesn’t belong here. I follow the scent of my mate across the hall to Alex’s door, and open it to find that her scent is even stronger inside Alex’s suite. I look over at him to see that he looks alarmed. “What the hell! Why would Patricia in here?”
I begin growling loudly as I look around for her. It doesn’t take long before I find her asleep in Alex’s bed wearing nothing but a red see through nightgown and no underwear. Her legs gaping open and inviting. It takes every ounce of my control not to give my Lycan True Blue free rein to kill my best friend and then f**k the brains right out of our slutty ‘mate’!
“Oh, crap!” Alex exclaims before protesting his innocence. “I swear I wasn’t expecting Patricia to be in here!”
I look over at him, not sure whether to believe him or not. I can’t imagine that my best friend would betray me like this, but True wasn’t in the mood to be reasonable right now. Not when I see Alex looking at Patricia, and Patricia looking like s*x personified in that red nightie, her eyes half open, and her hair mussed up from sleep. Alex notices my gaze on him and has the courtesy to look away.
“What the hell are you doing here?” I ask Patricia as calmly as I could under the circumstances. Which is to say, not very calmly at all.
“That’s none of your business, is it?” She says, sitting up and grabbing a throw blanket from the bottom of the bed to cover herself with. “I wanted to congratulate Alex on becoming King, but since you’ve shown up with him I think I’ll just go home now.”
“You’re going to leave here in the middle of the night with the palace grounds still swarming with all sorts of wolves looking like THIS?” I practically have an apoplectic seizure at the thought. “That is the single most idiotic thing that I’ve ever heard come out of your mouth! I won’t allow you to do that.”
“Shut up,” she says defiantly. “You don’t have the authority to tell me what I am allowed to do or not. I rank higher than you, Beta!”
“Do you think you could stop me if I put you over my knee right now and spanked you if you try to leave this room?” I growl at her, making her eyes narrow.
“Fine then,” she says, a smug smile suddenly appearing on her perfect pink lips. “I won’t leave. I’ll stay right here with Alex, and YOU should leave!”
“ARG, you are so aggravating!” I can’t help shouting at her out of frustration. “You’re not staying here!”
“And you’re the most annoying asshole I’ve ever met!” she immediately counters, scooting off the bed and standing up to confront me face to face. “I’ll do whatever I want, and go wherever I want like. You can’t order me around like this!”
“Both of you stop this at once!” Alex interrupts our argument, pushing his aura on us both with a royal command. “I am the king, and you’ll both do as I say with no more arguments!”
“Yes, king,” we both say, baring our necks in submission.
“Patty, go get yourself dressed in the bathroom,” Alex demands, pointing the way. “Once you’re dressed Gavin and I will make sure that you’re driven home safely.”
“I hate it when people call me Patty!” She informs us angrily while she grabs the slutty dress I had seen her wearing earlier and heads towards the bathroom to do as she was told.
“I can’t f*****g believe this!” I say, sitting down in an available side chair, the fight now gone from me. It’s replaced with depression.
“You know I would never mess around with Patricia no matter how tempting she looked,” Alex assures me, clapping me on the shoulder. “It was obviously nothing more than a honey trap. One designed to force my hand to take her as my Queen Luna. You know I’d never fall for something so ridiculous. Nor would I ever betray your trust and friendship!
“Good,” I state firmly. “I’d hate to have to kill you.”
Alex only nods in understanding at my threat. We wait around in silence at that point for Patricia to emerge from the bathroom, and then we head down to the waiting car to drive the three of us the two blocks to the Worthing house. She gives me one last scathing look before thanking Alex for the ride home.
I watch as she disappears into the house. As soon as she is safely inside, Alex asks the driver to take us back to the palace. The entire two blocks.
We chat some more on our way back to our rooms.
“Are you sure she’ll lose interest in you once she turns 21?” I ask, hating myself that I’m worried enough to need the reassurance at all.
“I know for a fact that this whole situation was orchestrated by her parents, not her,” Alex confided in me. I wish I could say I was surprised by the news, but I wasn’t. “This is only between you and me, but appointing George to be my Delta was my dad’s idea, in order to keep an eye on the Worthings. It’s a high enough honor that George would have been a fool not to accept, but also the role with the least impact on my rule. Besides, dad said I shouldn’t only appoint friends and George has the skills needed to do a good job, once he matures a bit.”
“He’ll need to mature a LOT to not be such a slimy little toady,” I remark with distaste. We both laugh.
I understand the appointment better now, but I sure don’t have to like it!
