CHAPTER 9:Missing

Lestas Walking over to Jonna’s room, I had intended to go get her in her room since she was late for breakfast. The maids had gone earlier to get her but weren’t back yet. Getting to the room, I pushed the door and entered, only to find the maids panicking. My eyes scanned the room, but there were no signs of her. “What are we going to do?” One of the maids asked. “Since we are unable to find her, will the master punish us?” Another inquired, slightly trembling. What were they talking about? Tiny Ember was missing, or had she run away? But that wasn’t possible since I was the one who had taken her to her room the night before. Even if she were to run away, she wouldn’t have gotten far on foot, and I wasn’t sure her body would be able to make her get so far. It would be easier for me to catch up with her. “Has she run away like the previous brides?” the first maid asked. “Didn’t they always run away after complaining that they couldn’t be with a demon?” “I don’t think so.” The second responded. “She hadn’t complained about not wanting to be with a demon.” It wasn’t new to hear the maids speak like that. They were right; all the other brides had run off due to the fact that they didn’t want to be with a demon, which was me. And they also overlooked the warning I gave them, resulting in their deaths. I was not interested in listening to them anymore, so I stepped into the room. “Where is Emmy?” The maids flinched as soon as they heard my voice. They turned around to look at me, and blood drained from their faces as soon as they saw me. “Good morning, Master,” they greeted, their voices shaking. “Where is Emmy?” I repeated my question. “She went to find the young Miss." The first one replied. “We couldn’t find Young Miss when we came to find her.” “She was already gone when we came.” The second added. “Get with the other maids and everyone in the mansion to find her.” I ordered. “Search the mansion alone, she must have gotten lost touring around.” I turned around and left the room. I had my doubts that she had run off, it was not like she had anywhere to go to if she did. I walked back to the dinning to inform my sister that I wouldn’t be able to join her for breakfast. Getting to the dinning, I found her there and she was sipping her coffee, not raising her head to look at me. “Isn’t your bride coming?” She asked. “I was hoping I could meet her.” “Not yet. She is missing.” I answered. “I will have to order a full search for her in the mansion. She must have wandered off and got lost due to how big the mansion is.” She raised her head to look at me. “I will join in the search too.” “Alright. Let’s go.” She broke into a wide smirk before dropping her mug and rising to her feet. “Lead the way, brother.” I led the way, and we began searching for her. We checked all the rooms available. We even bumped into the maids and butlers that were in search, but none of them had found her. Emmy was the next person we bumped into. She had a panicked look on her face when we found her, and by this time, there were no other places to search. “Have you found her?” I questioned Emmy. Emmy shook her head. “I haven't, but I haven’t searched your room.” “She couldn’t be there. I just left my room before I headed for breakfast.” I replied, placing a finger on my chin and trying to think of other places she could be. “If she wasn't there, I guess she would have left the mansion.” Emmy muttered, her eyes clouding with sadness. Other maids nodded their heads in agreement, but Emmy’s eyes brightened. “There is no way Young Miss would have left the mansion. Perhaps there is a place that we haven’t searched yet.” Emmy claimed, her voice rising, making other maids stunned. “Young Miss wouldn’t leave for any reason.” The maids couldn’t go into my room or my sister’s. Those would be the two places they haven’t searched, and since she wasn’t in my room earlier, she must be in Dahlia’s. Turning my gaze to Dahlia, I questioned. “Did you happen to see a lady with long, shiny blonde hair?” Dahlia looked stunned upon hearing my question. “Shinny long blonde?” “Yes, did you happen to see her?” Dahlia’s head tilted. “She is asleep in my room.” Silence filled the place, and she stared at me like she had done nothing wrong. I pinched the bridge of my nose, not understanding the reason why she had refused to tell us she knew where Tiny Ember was. Instead, she made everyone search for Tiny Ember in vain. “See!” Emmy’s high-pitched voice echoed around the hall. “I told you all that she wouldn’t leave the mansion; she wouldn’t run away. She must have gotten so lost that she was unable to locate her way back and decided to stay in the mistress’s room.” Emmy had been right. “You could have just told us she was sleeping in your room.” I muttered, trying my very best not to snap at Dahlia. “You didn’t ask me, and I had no idea she was the bride.” She responded. Looking back at the maids, I peered at Emmy. “You all can go now. Since we know where she is, there is no need for you to worry.” “Yes master.” The maids paused, turning around and leaving. All the maids were gone, except Emmy. “Young Miss has been found, but I still have to help her get dressed.” Emmy said, smiling brightly. “Could you get her out of the room for me?” “No.” I replied. “Just get her clothes ready; I will help her instead.” “Okay. I will pick up a cloth and bring it. Which of the rooms? Yours or Mistresses?” “Mine.” “Okay.” Emmy beamed and skipped off, probably happy that she had been right. “Let’s go to your room.” I told Dahlia. “I don’t have to ask because you knew we were searching for her and you haven’t seen her in the mansion before. Isn’t it obvious that she is my bride?” Dahlia shrugged. “As if. I get confused all the time that your bride changes after the previous run-off and dies. How do you expect me to believe that you finally found a bride who didn’t just sit in her room and sulk all day? I thought she was a maid that got lost. “After all, she had just walked into my room, read my book, and fell asleep on my couch while I carried her to bed. Shouldn’t you be thanking me?” “In your dreams, Dahlia.” I replied and began walking in the direction of her room. “You can’t go into my room like that!” She yelled, rushing after me. “I might have forgiven your bride, but I wouldn’t do the same for you.” I didn’t bother to turn around to look at her. I know she would have a frown on her face, but it wasn’t anything compared to the stress she had put all of us under.
