I stared at Lucien.
"What?"
His eyes remained on my wrist.
"The mark."
I quickly looked down.
The small birthmark was still there.
The same birthmark I had since I was born.
I looked back at him.
"What about it?"
Lucien didn't answer immediately.
As usual.
I was starting to think he enjoyed confusing me.
"I asked you a question."
"And I asked you one first."
I crossed my arms.
"I've had this mark since I was born."
For a second, something flashed across his face.
Then it disappeared.
"Who told you that?"
I frowned.
"My father."
Lucien became quiet.
Too quiet.
I hated when people did that.
Especially him.
"Can you please stop acting mysterious?"
Lucien looked at me.
"No."
I groaned.
"You're impossible."
A small smirk appeared on his face.
Only for a second.
Then it was gone.
The maid returned.
"Your room is ready, Alpha King."
Lucien nodded.
She looked at me.
"Please follow me."
Honestly, I was tired.
Everything that happened today felt unreal.
Being rejected.
Getting kicked out.
Now I was standing inside the Alpha King's mansion.
My life had become strange.
Very strange.
The maid led me upstairs.
The hallway seemed endless.
Soon she stopped in front of a large door.
"This is your room."
She opened it.
My jaw dropped.
The room was huge.
Bigger than my entire house.
A giant bed stood in the middle.
A fireplace burned softly in one corner.
The balcony overlooked the entire estate.
"This is my room?"
The maid smiled.
"Yes."
I walked inside slowly.
Afraid touching something might break it.
The maid laughed.
Then she bowed and left.
The moment the door closed, I fell onto the bed.
It was soft.
Very soft.
I could get used to this.
A knock suddenly came from the door.
"Come in."
The door opened.
A young maid entered carrying food.
Lots of food.
My eyes widened.
"Is all that for me?"
The maid nodded.
I suddenly remembered I hadn't eaten all day.
"You're my favorite person now."
The maid laughed.
A few minutes later, I was attacking the food.
Halfway through dinner, another knock came.
I frowned.
Who now?
The door opened.
And unfortunately, it was Lucien.
I quickly swallowed my food.
Almost choking.
Lucien looked at the plates.
Then at me.
Then back at the plates.
"You eat a lot."
I immediately became defensive.
"I was stressed."
Lucien sat down across from me.
Without permission.
Not that anyone could stop him.
This was his mansion.
I narrowed my eyes.
"What do you want?"
Lucien looked calm.
"I came to talk."
I almost dropped my fork.
Talk?
This man?
Voluntarily?
Now I was scared.
Lucien ignored my expression.
"Tell me about your mother."
My smile disappeared.
Immediately.
I looked away.
"I don't know much."
Lucien watched me quietly.
"She died when I was little."
That was what my father always told me.
I never had a reason to question it.
Lucien's eyes narrowed.
"And?"
I shrugged.
"That's it."
The room became silent.
For some reason, he looked disappointed.
Like he was expecting something else.
Suddenly, a loud knock echoed through the mansion.
The sound startled me.
Lucien immediately stood.
His expression turned cold.
Very cold.
A few seconds later, one of the guards rushed into the room.
"Alpha King."
"What is it?"
The guard looked nervous.
"Someone is outside."
Lucien's eyes darkened.
"Who?"
The guard swallowed hard.
"He says he's here for Elena."
My heart skipped a beat.
For me?
Lucien looked at the guard.
"Did he give a name?"
"Yes."
The guard nodded.
Then he spoke.
"Damien."
The room became silent.
Lucien slowly turned toward me.
His expression unreadable.
Mine wasn't.
I was shocked.
After everything he had done...
Why was Damien here?
And why now?
