Scarlett POV
“Whose body am I in now?” I muttered to myself, wondering who my host was. Then, flashes of her memories begin to play in my head, most importantly the one with the Alpha prince, her husband.
A broad smile spread across my face as I sat on the bed, and I couldn't hide my excitement. I had waited for hours, expecting Alpha Lucian, my husband, to come and reveal my veil, but since he was not here yet, I lifted it up a bit as I scrutinized the entire place with a blooming smile.
“Finally, I married Lucian. I will try to be a good wife and make him happy.” I thought to myself with a broad smile.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice him walking in until a stinging slap landed across my face, and it got me tumbling on the floor.
“b***h! You think you can have me after forcing yourself to be my wife with the help of the pack elders and your father? Don't even dream about it. Only Sally shall be my true wife.” His cold voice filled the air as his angry eyes remained fixed on me, with so much disgust and hatred.
I thought he had forgiven me for what I did to him, but I guess I was wrong. Lucian never sees me as a human who deserves forgiveness.
I scoffed and rolled my eyes as the memories of my host played in my head, and I felt a deep sense of pity for her. She must have been an i***t, I thought.
She's the daughter of a beta. She shouldn't have let anyone treat her so badly, even with her scar. She shouldn't have married a man who doesn't love her in the first place. Here, the rules unfairly label a person with a scar as an "ugly woman" who doesn't deserve love.
Instead of living a free and happy life, she was desperate for the love of her husband, so she drugged him and committed suicide. She's just foolishly in love.
But come to think of it, am I dead or trapped in this body?
I was so lost in thoughts that I didn't hear my personal maid calling me until I felt her presence close to me, and she tapped me gently. “My lady, are you feeling unwell?”
“I'm fine.”
Just when I tried to take a step and head inside, I felt a deep bang in my heart as if it would stop functioning any moment from now, then I paused and placed my hand on my chest.
I was only trying to recollect my memories, but it turned out my host is so obsessed with him and the only memory left was his and a figment of less important things even till death.
Just then, I heard a groan beside me, and when I turned, I saw that it was coming from the frog-voiced woman, Lady Emilia. She's the head of the maid's court in the Packhouse.
When our eyes met, she gasped and flinched back in fear. “Are you really alive? I felt your breath after you were pulled out of the water, and you were no longer breathing. How come you're still alive?” She cried out, and a frown curled up on my face.
I took a step closer to her, and she closed her eyes in fear. “I bet you're disappointed to see me alive?”
“No, my lady, I wouldn't dare!”
“Really?” I scoffed, seeing how she had lied between her teeth. “I heard all that you said earlier and I could feel the joy in your voice when you asked them to go bury me in haste without checking properly if I'm dead or not.”
“No, my lady…”
“How dare you!” I marched closer to her and gave her a hard smack across the face. The impact left an imprint of my fingers on her cheek as she held the spot tightly, and she cried out in pain.
“Please, my lady, forgive me.” She immediately went on her knees and bowed her head.
I was infuriated at her attitude. Despite being the daughter of a beta, my host is so weak that even an ordinary maid looks down on her. I clenched my fist tightly as I gritted my teeth at her, and she quivered away in fear. It took all my self-control to calm down as I turned my head to the other side, trying to calm my temper down. The more I looked at her, the more I wanted to lash at her.
“It's good to have you back, my Lady. I'm so happy for you,” she said, faking a smile. She couldn't even hide the pretense in her eyes. “I will go and announce the good news to Alpha Lucian that you're awake.” She suddenly stood up from the floor and turned around to leave.
“Stop right there!” I yelled at her, and immediately she paused. Then I took a step forward, covering the small space between us.
“Who gave you the permission to leave?”
“I'm sorry, my lady. I'm so happy for you and just wanted to share the good news after you've risen from…”
Before she could complete her words, I gave her another hard slap across the face that shifted her head to the other side.
“For an ordinary maid, you're being too lousy. I'm the Luna of this palace and the daughter of a beta. Who do you think you are?”
“Please, my lady, forgive me.” She cried out.
“Give yourself twenty slaps,” I ordered, and her eyes widened as fear became visible in her eyes and when our eyes met she quickly bowed her head.
"I shouldn't waste my strength on an ordinary servant like you," I declared authoritatively. "So, I'll watch you slap yourself twenty times, or you'll be kicked out of the palace." Immediately, she went to her knees and bowed her head.
“My...lady, please forgive me! Twenty slaps is too much.”
“Then I'll call the guards to do it for you.”
“No! 1, 2, 3…” she started counting as she began to slap herself.
“Harder.” I declared.
She increased the force as she continued counting.
“10…11…my lady, I was wrong.” She cried out.”
“My lady, you need to go to your chamber now; Alpha Lucian is heading there.” My personal maid whispered, leaning closer to me.
