After shooing them out of his office, Doyle settled in to make a few phone calls. From the living room, the muffled sound of Brandon’s and Riley’s voices floated into his office. At least, he thought, something good might come of this case. For now, they’d found some comfort in each other and that wasn’t a bad thing at all. Unless I find something that ruins what they have before it gets started, Doyle thought. But that would have to take care of itself as the case evolved. He cleared his thoughts and turned to the list of names and numbers he’d made from what Gary had written on scraps of papers and left in that desk drawer. There was no rhyme or reason to the arrangement of the names. He hadn’t thought it important to order them in any way since they weren’t in any order to begin with.
