The shocking news of Sandra’s resignation greeted Tyla as she arrived the following day. No one had seen it coming. Sandra was very dedicated to the job. Tyla gulped hard as she realized that the company had not paused for a day. Instead, she found herself filling in the shoes.
She had no idea what Sandra’’s job was like but she knew she was always in the boss’ office to make any necessary arrangements before any meeting. He was scheduled to meet some investment bankers that day and so she left her desk to see if she could help with anything.
David was out managing some other business outside the country. He had taken a flight the previous night.
‘’The power point has been uploaded, sir,’’’ she said, raising her head from the laptop. She found him struggling with his tie. He seemed to have sustained a cut on his right hand as she noticed the bandage.
She glanced at the time. There was no time for battling with ties.
‘’Let me help you with that, sir.’’ she said, approaching him before she rationalized it.
Before he could protest, she was in front of him, stretching on her heels to reach for his tie, her brows furrowed in concentration. He caught a whiff of her perfume. She always smelled nice. Looking at her up close now, he realized how gorgeous she was. He loved the way her hair was laid neatly on her head, he noticed the fine arch of her brows, the plump of her lips. He took his eyes away from her.
‘’Done.’’ she said, her face bearing so much seriousness. She reached for her folder and glanced at the time before following him out. Her heart was racing. What had she just done? Did she just notice Kevin looking at her as she did his tie?
Her phone flashed with a notification from her friend, Ava.
‘Babe, come to Clinton bar. I have a scumbag on my trial.’
She closed the notification. Not now, Ava.

Ava watched him from the corner of her eyes. He was watching her too and making some jokes about her with his friends. She sipped her drink slowly. If she leaves, he would follow her. She was expecting Tyla to join her soon, even though she hadn’t gotten a response yet and she knew her friend was very likely busy.
She watched him whisper something to his friends again, who hailed him loudly. Then he stood up and began to head towards her.
The bastard. She cursed under her breath.
He stood in front of her table, observing her for a moment, and waiting for her to acknowledge his presence. When he saw that she completely ignored him, he pulled the seat in front of her and sat down facing her, a small grin playing on his lips.
‘’The runway princess,’’ he smirked. ‘’What are you doing here?’
She glanced at him for a second, taking in his rugged appearance. He had allowed his beards to grow to an appalling volume. She used to love this man. In fact, she used to be crazily in love with him, letting him talk down on her and her dreams, accommodating his excesses. She never understood what Tyla meant when hsesaid he was bad for her, until she left him. She had pursued her dreams, and if not for this unfortunate afternoon, the last time he had seen her was her picture featured in her profile magazines.
She ignored his question and continued to sip on her wine slowly. She had come to the bar to be around people, quietly.
‘’Are you suddenly dumb?’ He asked, his hand curling into a fist and his face turning red. He still had his anger issues, obviously.
She looked around. Noone seemed to be looking at them, except his friends. ‘’I don’t have time for this, Mark. Please.’’ She had seen him since the last four months after their relationship went down the hill.
He chuckled, his voice dry and gritty from smoking too much. ‘’You think you are something now, eh?’’
‘’Please can you leave me alone? I’m asking politely now.’’
‘’Or what?’’ He sneered. ‘’You don’t seem to be able to move on, huh?’’
She furrowed her brows, taken aback by his statement. ‘’Meaning what?’’
‘’You think i don’t know you have been stalking me?’’
She didn’t find it funny but the realization that it was what it meant threw her into a fit of laughter. ‘’Stalking you?’’
The redness in Mark's face rose to his ears. He had told his friends that he had been the one to dump her and assured them that she was there because she had been following him about since.
He jerked her elbows forcefully, pulling it towards him and in the process knocking off her bottle which fell on the floor. The sound of the shattering drew people’s attention to them.
‘’You b***h!’’ He cursed. ‘’You think you can laugh, huh?’’
She tried to pull away from his tight grip. He had drawn her so close to him that she could smell his foul breath. His fingers were digging into her hand and she was trying so hard to not show any pain.
‘’What do you want from me?’’
He tightened the grip on her hand, his nails digging into her flesh. He was smiling at her, daring her with his eyes to do the worst. ‘’You are hurting me, you bastard,’’ she gasped, pulling at his hand with her free hand.
A man approached the table. ‘’Is everything alright?’’
Mark glared at him before dropping her hand. ‘’Walk away, man.’’
Ava pushed her chair backwards and began to pack her things. Coming to the bar had been a mistake.
