I was quiet on the way to the local ER. I allowed the EMT (Whose name was Toby) to poke and prod me as he checked me over but I couldn't help but notice the little looks that Tiff was giving him. There was definitely a story there that I would figure out when my head hurt less. The whole way there Tiff was muttering about making sure Lindsay gets what is coming to her. I squeezed her hand and said “you know I am OK don't you? It takes more than that skank to hurt me.” She smiled at me and I saw tears in her eyes. She didn't cry though she did what my bestie does best, she shook them off and then smiled at me “oh i know Lexi just hate you are hurt on your first night here. But once we get you checked out we can have an ice cream and Netflix day how does that sound?” i cannot help myself but nod my head which makes me wince in pain “Yes, ouch, that sounds good just need my head to stop pounding first.” Toby interrupted us “right we are here now so how about we get you those pain meds?” he said. I smile and let go of Tiff’s hand as I am taken out of the ambulance. Tiff follows the stretcher into my cubicle. Before Toby leaves he turns to Tiff and says “i didn't know you would be back for summer Tiff. but i am glad you are.” before she could reply he had left the room. I raised an eyebrow at her and waited for her explanation. For the first time in our friendship I saw her blush and speechless. But before she can say anything to me a middle aged woman walks into the cubicle. “ Hello Alexis, my name is Dr Marsh and I heard you were assaulted. I am sorry that happened to you.” she looked at Tiff and I and smiled before continuing “Hello Tiff it's good to see you again. Do you mind waiting with your family in the hall while I examine Alexis?” Tiff nods her head and agrees, squeezing my hand before she leaves me. I turn my attention to Dr Marsh “Please call me Lexi everyone does.” she nods and replies “well Lexi let's check you out so you can get out of here how does that sound?” after what feels like a million questions and i have been thoroughly checked over she turns to me and says “Well looks like you have a mild concussion nothing serious just need to rest for 24 hours i will get you a prescription of mild painkillers for you to take as and when you need them. I am happy for you to go home with the Hardy's tonight. If you feel nauseous at any time or the pain gets worse ask one of them to call me and I will make a house call OK?” I smile and nod my head before replying “Thank you Dr Marsh i am not a fan of hospitals.” She leaves the room and the Hardy's all join me. I notice that the twins stay back as their parents and Tiff fawn over me. “Let's get out of here,'' I say before they make me stay overnight,” everyone agrees and we head back to the vineyard.
I am pretty spaced out by the painkillers and decide to head to bed. I thank everyone and decline Tiff’s offer of sleeping in with her. I just want to be in my own bed. As I make my way past Dom's bedroom he comes out, dressed in sweatpants and a tank top. And I am unable to stop myself from swaying a little. Dom comes to my rescue and prevents me from falling over. “Need some help their kitten?” he asks i frown at him and ask “Kitten? Earlier you called me strawberry now kitten so I wondered why the nickname change ” he laughs and replies because “you are a very cute strawberry but you also have sharp claws” i shake my head and laugh with him. We reach my door and he opens the door for me. And I blame the medication for what I do next. I turn to him and kiss him on the cheek before climbing into bed “Night Dom.” and then I fall asleep.
