Mavis stood guard at the bathroom door while Ella hid behind the sink, her knees to her chest and her head buried in her arms. She was shivering and Mavis could have sworn she heard her praying under her breath. She knew when the door slammed that the coast was clear but it didn’t do a thing to calm her down and quite frankly she didn’t know how to either. She was never really good at all that reassuring stuff but the thought repeating itself in her head was what the hell the law had to have done to turn her into this. She was just as bad as the kid which meant nothing good. “Their gone, I promise. It’s ok now.”
