Ch. 16

She woke up with a start and felt someone next to her. Pushing away a little she sat up and looked over. Shawn was passed out next to her and she blushed. Looking down she wasn’t wearing anything and she grabbed the shorts and slid them back on. He started to stir from her movement and he rolled over and smiled at her as he opened his eyes.  “Morning.”  “Morning,” she said. She tried to remember what happened the night before and her eyes got wide. Then she remembered Steven and she growled a little. She was going to make him pay for what he did to her. All was fair now in this war. She didn’t care what trick she pulled or if they mated and he hadn’t wanted to. It was going to happen.  Shawn sat up and looked at her curiously. “Are you going to be okay?” She glared at him, “I am going to kill him.” He chuckled a bit, “I eventually gave you some release at least.” She continued to glare at him, “that doesn’t change the fact that he did that. I am going to hunt him down, and I am going to kill him.” “Okay. Okay. I understand. I won't stand in your way. You are free to do whatever you need to do to feel better.” He said to her with a smile. “I did enjoy sleeping next to you all night. It took awhile for you to let me go.” She blushed and turned away from him and then stood up.  “Where are you going?” He asked her, not ready to leave the bed yet.  “I would like to investigate my house now.” She said.  “Dressed like that?” He asked curiously.  She looked down at herself and sighed in frustration. “What exactly would you have me do? All my clean clothes are at my place. I will grab something to wear while we are there.” She stated.  Shawn reluctantly got up off the bed and then grabbed a bag and handed it to her. “I went out last night to get you some clothes to wear. Change and meet me downstairs.” Jena took the bag curiously and pulled the clothes out as he shut the door behind him. She pulled out a pair of jeans, a shirt, and she blushed at the lingerie he bought. It was red lace. Jena slipped everything on including the shoes and socks he gave her.  Downstairs he was already getting breakfast together for them to eat. “Let’s eat and we can discuss how to best go to your house.” She nodded and sat at the bar. “We should probably call in a few others. I can call Jeromy. He will bring a few others with him.” “Jeromy is your beta, right?” Shawn asked, putting an omelet on a plate and handing it to her.  She took the plate and nodded, “yes. He was gathering some more information on James for me. He was also the one that suggested I inform you I was on my way home last night. He thought it would be a good idea to not be alone. I am glad I listened to him.” She stated.  Shawn nodded in agreement. “I am glad you did.” He said to her. He finished making his own plate and sat down next to her and started eating.  In the middle of eating he stopped and put his fork down as though listening intently to something. Jena looked at him curiously, he must have been talking to Steven from the looks of it. He looked a bit annoyed and then sighed. He turned to her and gave her a small smile.  “Don’t worry about calling Jeromy. Let’s finish eating and head on over to the house.” He said to her.  “Why, what happened?” She asked curiously.  “Steven headed over there with several of our own pack to check it out while we were sleeping. He caught a wolf that was still nearby. He’s interrogating them now.” He said.  Jena growled a bit with annoyance, “why would he go there alone? It’s my fight.” Shawn gently grabbed her hand and squeezed it, “he wanted to protect his mate. This is our fight. We will protect you.” She was annoyed and pulled her hand away and put her fork down. “I am not a weak Alpha. I can fight my own battles. And we aren’t technically mates, remember?” She walked out of the kitchen and towards her car.  Shawn followed quickly behind her. “We never said you were weak.” “I should have just fought them all last night and gotten it out of the way.” She snapped. “Now they are going to think I need you to protect me.” She was already at her car when Shawn caught up to her. He grabbed her arm and pulled her so she was looking at him. Her wolf was going crazy and she growled at him angrily.  He immediately let go of her. “I am sorry. I didn’t mean to make you upset. I also don’t think Steven meant to make you upset.” He said, trying to calm her down.  “No. He just decided to torment me last night. Abandon me. Then he goes off on his own and fights my battles for me. He must think that I am some s*x crazed bimbo who can’t fight her own battles and so I turned to you last night. I got news for the both of you, I am an Alpha. I have my own pack to run. I will be damned if I let anyone try to walk all over me.” She snapped. Her rage was getting the better of her and her wolf was threatening to break free.  “Jena…” He said, keeping his tone low. “I understand that you are upset. You have every right to be upset. Please know that neither of us think you are weak, or that you need someone to fight your battles for you. That was never our intention. Steven should never have decided to do this on his own. He should have consulted us first.” Her eyes locked with his. Her anger didn’t go away, but it wasn’t getting any worse either.  “Let’s just go on over there and see what he found. We can discuss what to do together, after that.” He said to her.  She clenched her fists for a moment and then took a deep breath to calm herself. “Very well.” She got in her car and he slid into the passenger seat. They didn’t say much as she drove quickly towards her house, not caring if someone dared tried to pull her over. Shawn said nothing as they drove.  They pulled up to her house and she saw a few wolves sitting outside. They weren’t hers, they must have been from the River pack. She got out and they looked in their direction as they walked by. Jena stormed into the house and looked around and sniffed the air. It was clear there had been several people in her house. None of the scents she recognized aside from Steven’s, who was in the living room.  There was a man tied up to a dining room chair, who looked a little worse for wear when they walked in. Steven was pacing nearby when they walked in. He turned to look at them and Jena glared at him and growled. He stopped pacing and said nothing.  Shawn placed a tender and calmly hand on her shoulder. She stopped growling and looked at the man tied to the chair. “What did he say?” “He admitted to working with James’ clan. Although, he swears that it wasn’t by James’ order. He said his Alpha demanded that they pay you a surprise visit. Looks like they don’t want you together with him.” Steven said with irritation.  “They don’t want him to gain any power.” Shawn stated. “Although, I still don’t think this is all right. I don’t know why, but something still doesn’t feel right with me. I think this is something set up to distract us. I think he’s still lying.” Shawn said looking at the man again. “I think they were here to capture her, not kill her.” Jena looked between the three men. “Capture me?” Steven spoke, “there were several scents when I came through this morning. I think there were at least seven or eight wolves here last night.” Jena glared at the man tied to the chair and she walked over to him and punched him hard in the face. He immediately passed out.  The two other men looked at her curiously.  Shawn was the first to speak, “I don’t think we should leave you alone.” Jena glared at them. “Neither of you have a right to tell me what to do.” She mind linked Jeromy.  “Hello?” He said.  “Gather the pack and come to my house immediately. We are about to go on a hunt.” She told him and severed the connection.  Shawn walked over to her and she growled again warning him.  “Let us help.” She turned to them, standing her ground. “What do you plan on doing exactly?” She asked them. “If you join us on the hunt I would need to give them all a reason why. I am sure I will have enough questions from my pack when they arrive as to why you are even here. They sure as hell will have something to say when they realize I was almost attacked last night and instead of reaching out to them, the two of you and the River pack were here instead. What should I tell them? That my potential mates decided to take matters into their own hands? Not only did my pack not protect me, but I didn’t fight my own battles. To top it all off, I found my mates and we haven’t mated yet because they haven’t decided if they want me yet. I am clearly lacking in some areas and I guess I will need to try harder. I will start by gathering my pack and confronting James immediately.” The twins said nothing as she walked away from them and outside to wait for Jeromy and the others.  Once she was outside she looked at the two wolves that were guarding her house and she gave them each a small growl. “You are dismissed.” They both turned and walked away from her.  Shawn and Steven came out and walked up to her. She didn’t turn to look at them.  “We are sorry for making this more difficult for you. We didn’t think it all through.” Shawn said. “We are—” Jena turned to them still angry and she looked between them. “We? Is Steven unwilling to even talk to me?” Steven looked at her sadly and then spoke. “I am sorry. I shouldn’t have acted on impulse. I didn’t think about my actions. I should have waited for you as it was your battle to fight. I realize what I did was wrong, and I am sorry. Will you please let me make things right?” She hadn’t been expecting him to actually apologize and she felt her anger start to simmer. “What do you have in mind?” “We can start by marking each other. Showing everyone that we are together, that way James will have no choice but to back off.” Shawn stated. “We aren’t particularly keen on the idea of you being alone with him anytime soon. He wont have an excuse to be alone with you if the three of us make this official.” Jena looked at them both curiously. “Is this something you actually want to do?” They both nodded. Steven spoke, “yes. It was my selfishness that slowed this process down. I am sorry for that. I will do everything I can to make it up to you.” Shawn looked at her and smiled, “of course. That is if you would still have us.” Jena gave them both a small smile, “very well I accept. But,” her eyes caught Steven’s, “you have some making up to do. I won't accept anything less than a date every night for at least two weeks. It will need to be something different each night.” Steven blushed and then gave her a small nervous nod. “Okay.” She smiled and then leaned in to hug them both. They both leaned into her, their mouths each positioned now between her neck and shoulder. Before anything else could happen they leaned down and gently bit her drawing a little blood. They pulled back and Jena grabbed Shawn first and bit him drawing a little blood, and then she proceeded to do the same for Steven. She kissed where she bit Steven gently and then rested her head there a moment, enjoying his closeness.  There was movement behind her and she reluctantly pulled away and turned to see Jeromy and several of her pack members approaching them. They looked between her and the twins in confusion. Jeromy looked at their necks and then he smiled. He got down on one knee to pay his respects to them and bowed his head. “Alphas.” The others followed suit.  Jena smiled at them all and then stood tall and proud. “Steven and Shawn will be joining in on our hunt, and as of today the River clan and the Night clan are now one. We will introduce you to your fellow brothers and sisters shortly. For now, we need to find James. We have some questions for him.”
