She awoke to her alarm the next morning and groaned a bit. Rolling off the bed she was still fully dressed and she looked around suddenly remembering what happened yesterday. There was no sign of Shawn. She could still smell him, he must have stayed for a bit before leaving. Her heart fluttered a bit. He was clearly trying to deepen their relationship. What was she going to do? She hadn’t been thinking about any relationships until this happened.
Getting up she quickly got a shower and was ready for the day. Although, tomorrow was Saturday she was going to continue preparing for their challenge. She would have everything ready by Monday morning. Her proposal would be sent over before Cloud even sat at their desk, and she would have an opening for them to set up a meeting with her to discuss as soon as possible.
Going downstairs she found a note on her counter that directed her to the fridge, where she found a plate with an omelet on it wrapped up. She smiled. That was a very kind and caring gesture from him. She unwrapped it and slipped into the microwave for a moment to heat it up. There was enough time to eat her breakfast before leaving. As she headed to the front door there was another note waiting for her. It told her to have a good day, and it had his number written down to put into her phone so they could communicate. It was clear he was trying. She smiled at the gesture and folded up the paper and slipped it into her breast pocket, keeping it close to her heart. It has been a while since anyone had treated her so kindly. In fact, no one had ever treated her this well before.
At the office she sat down at her desk and there was an email waiting for her. Opening it up it was from Shawn making sure she made it into work okay, and that he hoped she enjoyed her breakfast. Jena smiled at it warmly. He was clearly a kind and caring man. Someone she would be proud to have as a mate. He would be kind and caring towards their children.
Children? She looked away from the computer a moment. No, they had just met. It wasn’t right to think of those things. They weren’t even officially mates yet. Besides, nothing was going anywhere without Steven getting on board and she was sure he didn’t feel quite the same about all of this. It was possible that Shawn was doing this because it was his nature. Maybe he felt the same about everyone. That made her chest hurt at the thought, she couldn’t think bad of Shawn.
Looking back at the screen she responded to his email. Informing him that she appreciated him giving her a ride home last night and she appreciated the breakfast. Obviously she arrived to work just fine as she was responding to him. As her email sat there she looked it over several times. Was she being desperate by sending this to him so soon? She just got it. Would she seem like she was seeking his attention? Suddenly her hand moved on its own and sent the email.
“What are you doing?” She asked her wolf.
“Send.” Her wolf said, clearly annoyed.
She sighed and looked away.
There was a ding and she quickly looked at her screen. It was just from her secretary sending her a reminder itinerary for the day. Jena sighed and stood up and walked away. What the hell she was thinking? Getting excited thinking about him responding again. Why was she suddenly so interested in what he had to say? Excited that he would be messaging her. Talking to her.
Jeromy knocked and then opened the door. She pretended to be looking for a file in the cabinet. He looked at her curiously when she didn’t pull anything out and turned to him. “Everything go okay yesterday?”
“What do you mean?” She asked him curiously.
He raised an eyebrow, “I mean you walked out of here with one of the twins and it looked like he was driving your car out of here. Did something happen last night?” He looked towards her neck for a mark.
She blushed and rubbed her neck in nervousness before walking back towards her desk and leaning against it putting her arms back down. “No. Nothing happened. Nothing like that anyways.” She sighed and looked at him. “He drove me home. Made me breakfast, and left.”
“That’s it?” He looked at her skeptically.
“Yes. That’s it.”
“Hmmm…..” He said to her.
She gave him a small glare, “what’s that supposed to mean?”
“I just mean that, you just met him and suddenly you invited him over to your place. He’s your mate after all. It’s not like things don’t just happen after one finds their mate.” He said to her with a small smile.
She blushed and turned away from him and walked back behind her desk. “Nothing else happened. I assure you. He simply helped me home as I was tired.”
He stood there for a moment watching her.
There was another ding on her computer but she refused to look towards it, pretending it didn’t matter. “If there is nothing else to report, I do have a job to do.” She said to him.
Jeromy nodded, “very well. But do me a favor, and refrain from disappearing with the enemy without informing me again. You are my Alpha and it is my job to help protect you. It’s a bit hard to do my job if I don’t know where you are being taken to.”
She looked at him, “very well. I will keep that in mind.”
Without another word he turned and left.
Jena sat down and looked at her screen. It was going to be a long day if she kept looking at all her emails expectantly.
As the day wore on she eventually received an email from Steven, informing her that he already sent his proposal over to Cloud at the end of the day. Although she was a bit annoyed at his formal and irritating email, she wouldn’t be swayed and would continue with her original plan. Cloud probably wouldn’t look over the proposal till Monday morning anyways, and she would have it ready for them first thing.
Looking at it, did Steven not want a relationship? Or, was he looking for a mate that would be more docile? Someone who would just stay at home, and listen to his every word? Maybe he was expecting a different type of mate and she was not the expectation.
Why was she even thinking about it? Why did she care? If he wasn’t going to put forth the effort she shouldn’t either. She said that but her mind wondered to Shawn, didn’t he deserve a chance? He was clearly trying and didn’t mind that she was who she was. Maybe she could get more information about Steven from him. They were both her mates after all, it wouldn’t be considered cheating to ask for information from one about the other, would it? Although, maybe she should just keep challenging Steven? Figure him all out on her own. If he wanted to be stubborn, she would be too. She wasn’t going to put up with his crap and he needed to know it. Going through Shawn would be like she was upset about his behavior and was trying to find a way to reach him. No, she would let him figure things on his own. Meanwhile, though she wouldn’t push Shawn away if he wanted to continue talking.
